G50/52 starter motor
Discussion
Forgive me for asking a question to do with GT40s here but hopefully someone out there can give me the answers I can't find elsewhere.
What I'm ideally looking for is an uprated starter motor for a 91 Turbo Porsche transmission - G50/52. Does such a beast exist - if so who makes it (Tilton don't)?
I know about converting the clutch back to the 89 version but I don't want to go that route.
Alternatively is there somewhere that can rebuild my starter motor to a higher spec?
I have a 96460410400 which I believe is off the Non Turbo motor. Can anyone tell me what the difference is between this and the Turbo starter 96560410400.
The reason I want an uprated starter is because I will be joining it to a high compression Ford V8.

IMI High-Torque starters for example.
Bought mine (IMI-101-N) from Good Vibrations Motorsports.

As I switched to a G96 box I now cannot use it and would give it away.

Not sure if the G50 one is identical but there is a heavy duty porsche starter option for the 930.....
I have a second hand one but wanted a new one on my Ult but when I got it on the car it didn't turn as easily. Took it back and swaped it for the bigger one.
Worth checking into as it turned my High cr 383 chevy very easily.

I have found 2 starters which appear to fit. As I understand they are
96560410400 for the Turbo and
96460410400 for the Non-Turbo
I've been told (by Kennedy) that these 2 starters for the later box are identical. They spoke to Bosch who could not tell any difference between the two.
I think Bosch also use two different numbers for the rebuilt versions of each.
Kennedy are not aware of any other starters to fit this box with ring gear in standard position ...... but I'm still looking. I have another couple of leads.

I found some infos in the Bosch catalogue:
96460410400, Bosch-Nr: 0 001 110 059 new, 0 986 016 250 exchange, used in Carreras and 993 Turbo.
96560410400, Bosch number 0 001 110 081 new, 0 986 016 250 exchange, used in 964 Turbo.
Only difference is an additional contact to connect to the ignition, but as they both have the same exchange number I think it was never used for whatever.
Both have 1,7 kW.
Another starter that can be used is from the 996 Turbo, GT2, GT3, 99660410700, Bosch number 0 001 115 011 new. As it is used at the boxes with cable gear shift its motor housing is 28 mm shorter. It also has
1,7 kW. All these starters need the gear ring near the engine and a counter bearing in the clutch housing.
Hope this helps.

Thanks you've saved me having to do my homework for sourcing a starter of my GT3 box..... I'd already found that the normal starter was too long and that I'd need a shorter one but hadn't got round to looking into it..... Excellent
