Hi,

Can anyone tell me the price of a factory-built GTR, to the same spec' of the World Record holding car, please?

Thanks.

Steve.

Don't know. You could always speak directly to Ted at the factory on 01455 631366.

You should speak to Ted or Richard at the factory. They may give some tips on how to make a light V8 powered car that goes very fast!

But how noisy will it be in that spec???
......... and can it be used on UK circuits where increasingly the "noise pollution" - there is no accounting for taste - is a problem for whinging residents.

My 630hp 'blown' GTR was 98db.

Certainly on the snippet of video I have of your car Stig, all you can hear is your brother's 460SE! (and very nice it sounds too).

The GTR sounded bloody sexy from the passenger seat though!

That's interesting - when I went to Oulton Park last year they had a 105dB limit and suggested that if I were to come back I should make the car quieter. And that was with pretty new silencers, I presume they're noisier now - perhaps ought to check.

Mine tested at 102db on nearside and 105 on off side at Goodwood last week.

Does anyone else see such variation left to right on the standard system?

So for that day the car was marginal for the trackday as they took the highest reading.

The SE was something like 108db so I'm not surprised

Btw. It's just been sold and is being shipped to Australia!

Bob, they do get louder over time but they need to be sub 98db IIRC to pass SVA

The SVA noise limit is 102dB. My car was *very* marginal at 3750 rpm I was asked to run at for SVA with brand new silencers. Now I've had quite a few flame outs (see profile for details) the car is a bit noisier. I did have a small leak round the header <-> silencer interface which didn't help...but the SVA man counted 102.8 dB as 102 dB. (very very nice man)

I believe that Ultima supply more tightly packed silencers which reduce the power a bit along with the noise.

The only way you'll get an Ultima down to 98dB is to put an exhaust system like X pipe based one that andycanam built for his car...or perhaps stick a couple of pumpkins somewhere painful.

Strange, I tested mine at Snett Dave and it was indeed, 98db?

Dave, your machine didn't sound all that noisy last time at KH, and that was after you had melted all the exhaust wadding! But of course my ears are not calibrated and I was comparing it with that R32 Skyline which was not of this world.........

Hmmm. Can you remember what revs, angle, distance, etc were you testing at?

For my SVA I think it was 45 degrees, 1 metre and 3750 rpm. The SVA/VI building was quite a distance back but it wasn't the ideal empty quiet field.

Might the supercharger have made it quieter? Not sure how it's not like there's a turbo in there smoothing things out.

One of my colleagues has a calibrated noise meter for a project we're working on. I'll maybe see if I can borrow it for some experiments...

Probably shouldn't say this but.... Up here, Knockhill operate a very liberal policy. There are no enforced noise limits! That said, I think if you turned up with no silencer boxes they might send you packing...don't want to scare the sheep too much.

If CJs charged engine was running a lower compression then that would take some of the bark out of it.

Think you could be right there Steve. Even a 9.6:1 engine like mine has fairly sharp sound compared with a stock 350.

Twin turbo's on anti-lag would be fairly loud I reckon!

(Oh, Did I mention that I got my turbo's this weekend!!)
