Ultimate Car Control
Discussion
Well,
The black beastie is back from another test.
This time to try and find the limits of adhesion (and talent).
Found both.
Booked yesterday, I thought I'd make the most of the good weather and went to Rob Gravett's Ultimate Car Control course today.
Wow!! You leave with so much more confidence in your car and your own ability. Can't recommend it enough.
Rob has a totally unique, Physics based approach to safe fast driving and although it flys in the face of commonly used techniques, there is a kinda eureka moment, when you suddenly..well,just get it!!
Bye-bye understeer roundabouts, so-long tail happy exits!!

....how much?
Err, don't forget to add on the cost of 4 new tyres though (see other thread)

must admit, sounds fun!
He-he! Gary, spot spot on!! The Noble and the Vantage (big one) were both seeing the tyres disappear beneath them. Mine were on the way out (and I'll finish them off at Brands on Tuesday).
Wayne, yeah, Rob was taking the course and took the Ultima round the track. I watched - a first (fook they sound good don't they?!) and they was driven.....oh - I'm shite!! But to see him correct roll oversteer at speed on a long fast corner was a joy. Basically my fast is is his 60%.
Sunburnt now.

It's true Robb said it was "the best built ultima and the best looking he'd ever seen"..
Sounds like a challenge/invitation to me.
(PS I liked it too)

Not trying to take anything away from p as we all know that it is indeed a very good example but I wonder just how many Ultimi Rob has had privy to over the years
He hasn't seen the GTW yet either

And neither have we!!!
(ouch! that must sting)
Hey Nick, nice to meet you. Your car sounded great with that trick exhaust.
Oh and Wayne, Rob also said that it looked like a true supercar in black;he thought that in all the other colours they just looked like kit cars!! Hell, what does he know?

What's this thread worth without a video footage of the event??
Sounds like great fun.

Arrr Mikael, I took the gear with me too, damn. Was gonna show his feet dancin' on the pedals.
He got in the car, and after one lap of hairy powerslides and one 2nd to 5th change, it was like he had been drivin' it for a season. Amazing to see your car being driven from the outside, and the sound!! Yeaoww!!
I'll get some vid next week of the Brands Trackday.

Already have Nick, off-line!! But for everybody else's benefit, Mr Twohats (in his Noble) was keeping up with Rob in my Ultima.......for a bit. But I have to say Nick, when he got a clear patch ahead, he didn't half fly!!
A good day was had.
Tomorrow, ahh, yes...sh1tting myself!! But do I use Rob's technique into Paddock and Druids??

Thanks Pete - he did indeed open up a gap (hardly surprising) but I was very pleased that I hung on as long as I did - I think you need a new set of rears BTW also the layout was a little short to let the Ultima get into it's stride!
Yes to paddock & druids - that's pretty much the corner combo we were doing..Go for it!

Hi Nick - well I'm still alive!
I'll explain all in another thread; but indeed, the technique works. I tried my old against Rob's and with hid the car just dug in and pulled itself around the corners.
The tyres are officially shot!
