Tips for best windscreen wiper performance

I’m Curious as to what the wiper performance is like of the factory arrangement.
Does anyone find that they do any other things to increase its performance?
I know there are some fairly cluey people on this board, so I thought id ask, as the wipers on the current (to remain nameless) car are shit, and I’m forever replacing the blades.

The wiper works OK but is almost on it's side at the limit of travel which can mean the plastic edge of the blade marking the screen. Would be nice if it were possible to make the blade tilt so it stays square to the glass but have so far failed to design a mechanism.
I also use a product called Rainex which puts some sort of film on the glass (probably silicon) which makes rain bead on the glass. In steady rain at 50mph and above I don't use the wipers as the rain just rolls up the screen and away.

My friend has now done a design in CAD thats does this.Steve

As Steve said the problem with the wiper is that the blade is only square to the windscreen in the center position but not at the reversal points and hence the blade cannot flip correctly.
Cause is the wrong angle of the wiper shafts in relation to the windscreen.
As they are simply bolted through the bodywork their angle is approx. 70° which is not enough due to the heavily curved windscreen.
I increased the angle to approx 110° and now the blade is square at all positions.
I built a new wiper mechanism and modified the bodywork but that is not necessary to alter the angle.
As the shafts are rather long it should be possible to use angled sleeves inside and outside the bodywork.

Heated screens are available over here, I have one fitted in the GTW. They were made to be fitted in the Stealth B6 and as both cars use the same screen the fit is not an issue even though they are not easy to obtain, but anything is possible although I was just in the right place at the right time

I am using a Bosch wiper arm which needs bigger wiper shafts, so I built a new mechanism
with a Bosch motor. It is completely mounted in rubber to reduce the noise.
To ease the modifications I made (wiper, heater, steering) I cut out the dashbord.
As it is out I will make it removable. Don´t like to remove the seats and lie on my back
if there is something to do under the dash.
