The modification shown in the pictures was done to Jon Paynes GTR. Although I have two inspection panels on the front of the nose to get to the pedals on one side and the A/C valve on the other, this modification is a superior piece of work in my opinion. the clip is held in by two bolts up through the bottom of the dash into the cross pipe. The flange and receiver that where developed are so well fitted that the bolts are almost not needed. A Motec CDL color display unit will go into the dash.

Lee, that's a great modification. I like it very much and it makes getting in or under that part of the chassis soooo much easier. However, this is the work of a pro and probably is way above the capacity of most builders. Good work thumbup

Hi
Excellent job. Fans intrigued me. Can you tell me what is the model and what is their performance.
I still have poor performance for their fans / LS7 700 HP /

A very nice piece of work and not that difficult to replicate.

However, there is very little room to work once the windscreen is in. There should be little that requires access from that direction unless you think you might need to replace the heater/aircon unit.

It would make access to the back of the instruments easier but remember that the wiring may not allow the dash to move far.

Storer I believe the answer to the wiring would be to mount a bulk head fitting on a tab on the back of the removable piece. disconnect the two bolts, move the piece far enough to access the plug, disconnect the plug and pull out the dash piece. Lee

indeed, this is how all modern cars are built:

^^^ complete, fully wired, plumbed and pretested dashboard goes into place on handling crane/jig in one shot

Do you think we would be able to hire the crane/jig from the Factory or would Richard put it on the ever growing Options List????

It's going to need a splined end on the steering column to allow "easy" though.

I also made this change to the dashboard
very convenient for operations, repairs, modifications to the instruments, a / c etc.
Unfortunately, the problem is that the transition between summer / winter dashboard makes noise, friction between the fixed and mobile
the plastic with hot and cold changes size and makes noise

Some type of insulation, felt, rubber strip, in certain strategic places should/could help reduce/eliminate the noise and squeaks.

maybe the factory could make the mod as standard?

why the factory did not ever think of that?
I think there is a problem
perhaps rigidity of the structure?
I think a solution "too" simple .......

Maybe the factory did think about it.
When I cut my dashboard out, the centre section did become pretty floppy, so that could be one reason.
Also the factory provide a "basic" product that does what they say it can. Any changes are left to the owners. They can't please everyone.
I don't know how often one needs to get under the dashboard. I made mine because I wanted a different design, and thought I may as well make it removable at the same time, rather than bonding it in.
