What's a good price for a LS1?

Is this about average for a LS1 crate?
Also how hard is it to bump the hp up to 400hp from the stock 320hp?

LS1 has a good bottom end, very good in fact but it seems a good idea to uprate the rod bolts if you have it apart. I think there are 3 bolt options available. If you go looking at a crate make sure it's complete, (it won't be. The price you mention is about normal. You will probably have to source the maf elsewhere plus the alt and it's bracket/tensioner, belt and pas if you want it, not to mention the air-con. Crate engines are by no means complete. The F body alt is nice and neat ,where as the vette item can get in the way. I may be out on my pricing now but a complete front end set up could cost an extra $1k-$2k depending on which parts you buy. If it's for a retro install you only need the motor plus an alt and maybe the pas so I would buy F body parts or truck parts. If you plan on tuning a lot then I wouldn't bother with the stock ecu but would look for the performance GM unit with a stripped down loom or go aftermarket. If you plan to do a lot of mods maybe just find a used engine so you don't end up replacing to many new parts. Also check out the pans. Vette is wide and flat big wing type (2 versions). F body is conventional and a bit deeper. So, try to work out which will fit your application. If I can help further feel free to mail me.
GM sell a hot rod loom that is designed to make a retrofit simpler if using the stock ecu.
They also do a package for the ASA cars consisting of a revised cam and modified ECU that should raises the output to around 450bhp and adds a few revs to the top end. The rod bolts are a recommended upgrade if increasing the rev limit - not strictly necessary, but worth the peace of mind.

2001 and newer LS1's all have the LS6 Rod bolts as standard equipment. No need to upgrade. $5995 is the best price for a crate engine, which includes the computer and harness. www.paceparts.com also sells them along with www.jegs.com
Keep in mind the LS is rated at net HP, with exhaust and all accessories about 20% lower than engine dyno numbers. 345hp with the corvette exhaust, so you're over 400 gross HP, which is the way all engine builders quote HP.

Well if its 400hp gross i can live with that. I was thinking around 355hp gross for a LS1.
Did you run into any major problems with your LS6/C5R install? I can handle making motor mounts and all the sensor's needed for the LS1. But i was wondering if the bell housing mounting and flywheel etc. are the same as the older chev's?

The factory sell a chassis with the LS1 mounts. Did you not know ?

If you mean engine -to- tranny adapters, Kennedy Engineering can do the LS-1/6 -to- G50; I'm not sure if there's a similar co. closer to Canada, but Kennedy's lists a different kit for the LS-series engines, which should answer whether there's a different mounting face than the older SBC's. ;-)

The Ultima factory? I had recently asked Ted about using an LT-1 or LS-1 because their site simply says "SBC," and his reply was simply "The standard engine is the older small block Chevrolet
The engine mounts are by lakewood and are a rubber/steel composite". But maybe there was some sort of misunderstanding.
In any case, the LS has been put into an Ultima by Mike Mullin, too, Pat...
