Here's my solution to the engine bay heat problem on my car.... side scoops that Reverie developed for me.

http://reverie.ltd.uk/shop/products.php?p=d8e30c

I had them done after I discovered that there was almost no air flow in my engine bay at all, which whilst wasn't overheating the engine it was robbing the car of power as the air filter was getting too hot to even touch let alone remove after 30mile journeys.

They are going all out and developing a full intake system that takes the air from one side via the scoop for a 100% fresh air intake system! Might even fit a supercharged engine!

Now if only they could do a complete carbon body, as they recon it would be 1/5th the weight of my glass one and seeing as the side scoops they did me were actually much lighter than the mesh I took out, I can well beleive it.
Imagine an unpainted full carbon body 500bhp LS1 engined ultima weighing 800kgs.... Hmmmmmm.

Yeh... but the body wasn't an Autocaved one, it was hand laid the same as the GRP, so the only weight saving is in the matting (which isn't that much unless you use less), were'as it's the resin that offers the biggest weight saving.

And once the moulds were produced (the expensive bit)they recond it wouldn't be much more expensive than the standard body costs... It certainly wouldn't be twice the cost!

Anyhow it's all pipe dreaming anyhow on the body front!

Ram air is a bit of a dark area for me... but I don't think it will be a Ram air system (but they have done a Ram air GTR who's owner swears by it).

What I think I will do is duct the air from one of the scoops towards the air filter so it blows cold air onto the filter, mainly because this will only involve a small outlay for a relativelly large gain.

I've seen 60oc on my engine bay temp guage and 54oc whilst driving....
But my engine bay scoop isn't in the airflow like a GTR's is, hence the need to source it from elswere.

I think that the main problem with the C/F body was the paint. It's hard to get a decent paint finish on C/F, and you need more paint. The extra weight of the paint sort of overcame most of the advantage of making the body from C/F in the first place.

But they can also be done in Gel coat so wouldn't need painting..... I was going to have mine done to match the car but I didn't have enough spare gel coat and I decided I prefered the carbon look anyhow!
