Not seen a single E-Type in all my years here! I think if I did my eyes would explode! And here's someone saying some guy has several of them? Well, I'll be...

there is a stunning silver coupe in singapore that i see maybe 3 times a year!!

the classic poached egg on a spoon!!

RE the MMM2H thing, you will need to check teh small print. As Berw says rangies and rarri's are out but i know someone who has done MM2H reciently and brought over a merc S500 with no issues, so some things slip under the radar.

The E type I saw was parked on the guys drive, it was a series 3 soft top. He told me he owned several of the tower blocks in downtown KL and had 2 or 3 others parked in the basement of one of those towers. Given the the size of his house and the other cars parked on his drive I saw no reason to disbelieve him.
In my time in Asia I lived in S. Korea, Australia, China, Malaysia and Japan. Saw E types (and other classic cars) in Australia, Malaysia and Japan,no where else.

There are a few E types in Malaysia in the Singapore and Malaysia Vintage car club, normally a few turn up for the events, there is also one that races in the HK classic car club series at Sepang, but not common. There are a lot of XJS's. If you want specific advice on importing a particller car then if you PM me I'll email you the address of the agent I used to get my Sylva in. A genral rule for a rougth budget is take the cost price or the current listed price in a Classic Car mag for condition A car, which ever is higher, take 100 percent duty and add 3 or 4 K pounds,
You also need to remember that to bring a car to Malaysia you l need an Approval Pemit, you can't just arrive and pay the duty, the AP needs to be there, mine cost me 50 pound, but there are horrer stories about what people have paid for these.
The custom people will insist the car has a condition A price evn if awreck, as they will not believe you would import any thing less.

Thanks for the info Berw et al. Doesn,t seem to make any economic sense to bring it in if I can't do it through the MM2H scheme. It seems a better plan would be to bring in a new car through MM2H and perhaps buy a classic locally

Just been talking to a mate he's just had a quote on a 535I E28, of minimum 3 thousand pound in duty (so 100% of the Uk price) plus freight and fees so about as I said above
Came up because a saw a supurb M535I for sale in Kl today when I bought some parts for my 6'r and it was only 3K on plate, in malysia, and much less rust than a British car.
The other issue with he E type would be road tax, it would be a round 1400 pound a year for a 4.2, you could get this down to 20% of this if you had a nother two Malaysian cars, you can buy two proton Tiara(citron Ax) for 500 pound register them and the road tax on these is less than 10 pound each, you then throw the Tiar's away keep the docs and pay the road tax, each year, (no Mot so you can do this) you then get the Etype for 1200x20% plus 2 x 10 pound.
Road tax is on Cc and the cc rate goes up as you get in the higher bnd so yo can be paying over apound a cc, a 318 BMW is 50 pound ayear road tax a 328 is over 300 pound a year,
Don't take my word on MM2H I only know wah what I hear in the pub, but I know a few people who tried RR's and failed, reason because it may upset the king if he saw you driving a new Rr.
Insurance on an old car is also aproblem, fully comp on anything over 10 years old is difficult to get, an E type here would be well over 70K value and you would not get that cover, so you would be driving it very inderinsured.

Great news, in time for the kids to start school, Around KLCC is a good place, 18oo sq feet may be a bit small with 3 kids, my place is 1650 with one kid and she fills it. Big question is are you paying yourself or is it a spend it or loose it allowance.
If it you money Regency Tower is good, the only people who stay very high end are on spend it or loose it deals. I'll rent you a car if you want, I have Teranno 4 x 4, fully leathered, manual, new tyres, service you can have it for 1200 rm a month including insurance unlimited milage, month by month up to three months if you want.
I need it in April when the race season starts to tow the track car. The M535 is still available.
