Nope, there are 3 regions, A, B and C. US and bits of Asia, Eurpope and the others. I can play US BRs on my HK PS3, but none of my old DVDs or UK BRs...

All sounds good, so i need to buy;
1- PS3 (any idea what model?)
2- HDMI cable
3- TV Panasonic P42G20 42@ Plasma
4- 2.1 Surround or amp and speakers? (ideas welcome)

Anything else??
What about a P42GT20 42"Plasma from pana same as the one mentioned above but will will also display 3D when you are ready, PS3 will play 3d Blu-ray also!! not trying to confuseyou but might be worth thinking about!! But the Panasonic Plasma is definatley the way to go.

I think what mk2 24v was getting at was that many blu-rays are not region coded at all! Or at least they weren't a few years ago, maybe that's all changed now. IIRC there was a website which listed all the region free blu-rays

Slightly OT, but you can now stream movies direct from your LOVEFiLM account with your PS3.

You've been able to do it on bravias for at least 6 months now, as well as youtube etc.

One thing that does work though is if you use the browser on the PS3 you can watch the ITV player.
They're bringing out a program but until then they've made the website work on the PS3

My PS3 is pretty much exclusively used for tv (I use the PlayTV module for freeview and PVR, really is a very good package) and Blu-Ray. Has done a sterling job for the past couple years. Official remote is a must and tbh I havn't found it to eat batteries either.

Also, i would like to get Guitar Hero (preferably Metallica), as i don't have a lot of time to get really in depth with other games. Anyone used it?
yes

Love it biggrin

Thanks for the thread, tis my justification for getting a Ps3 next payday smile. (I couldnt justify it to myself just for Guitar Hero!!)

It's great, you need a remote for it though as using the controller is pretty clunky. The official remote is nice but chews up batteries.

The other point to note is that it doesn't work with most universal remotes as they are based on IR whereas I think PS3 uses Bluetooth.
You need one of these
http://www.logitech.com/en-roeu/remotes/accessorie...

Works faultlessly with my Harmony 1
Howly fk! Is this for real? £50?
Why don't they just allow IR, like the 360 does now.
I have my harmony 1 control my 360 with no problem, but I never bothered with the PS3, didn't know it would have cost me half the remote again...

Bluetooth remotes rock, until you've used one and haven't had to point it or hold it at all you won't understand

I know, but I like to be given options. Also, really, £50 to have your £120 remote control control your blueray player?
That's a bit ott if you ask me. That's more than a standalone RC, plus it still is an IR that you have to POINT at the "BT converter". Yet the DS3 controller costs less than that.

So it's vastly overpriced imho.

I'm not condoning that stupid expensive one, the standard ps3 remote is awesome and that's ~£30 IIRC

I only ever used the DS3 controllers and the "not having to point" is great. But to watch a movie, we always use the Harmony, and it's just point in the general direction of the tv and it works (pretty powerful IR). I found it ashame I couldn't get it to work with the PS3, but since that's gone now it's not much of an issue anymore. An "IR reciever" made by sony for the PS3 could have been much cheaper than an IR to BT converter.

After all, these days everybody has a couple of devices to control, and the pro's of only having one remote outweigh the pro's of two BT remotes imho.
