So, got the 1977 classic "A Bridge Too Far" on DVD a couple of weeks back, and by the nature of the storyline, a lot of the key scenes are in German or Dutch or both, with English subtitles.
On my (old, classic CT) telly, the 16:9 aspect picture was automatically budged up a bit to accommodate the subtitles.
Telly went pop yesterday so I've finally leapt in to the 21st Century and gone flat screen LED and doubled the screen size in the process.
"Right", I thought, "Let's see that para-drop over Arnhem properly"
Snag is, all the subtitles have now disappeared off the bottom of the screen, and no matter what there seems to be no way to rearrange the picture to give them space. Even putting the telly in to 4:3 mode doesn't move the actual subtitles, only the top line of which can just about be seen at the lower edge of the screen.
Any ideas? (Apart from learn Dutch and German)

You should be able to find a mode on the tv that will pic automatically picture format... 16:9 or 4.3 .... so that should not be an issue.

On the start up menu of the film there is normally an option for subtitles on or off...... or a button on the remote for subtitles...... hopefully of some help to start sorting out the prob.

Isn't there an option in the DVD player's "top menu" or similar saying what format tv it's outputting to? You probably set it when the player was new.

Maybe try turning it on without a disk in, then look for a "top menu" or equivalent on the remote.
