Right, my Sony surround sound is on it's way out, so I need a new system. was hoping for some advice from people in the know.

My living room is about 5x5m got a 40 inch LCD Sony tv, I want some good sound, decent bass and treble.

I was looking at a Bose set up, but not gonna spend all that!
also want to play music cd's and dvd's

Would like to keep the cost fairly sensible, say less than a grand

Looking forward to suggestions and links, thanks in advance, Allen

Have a listen to a Yamaha sound bar...if it works in your room (and it should), you will get rid of most of the wiring required for "conventional" surround sound systems. With a 40" TV, something like this may fit the bill...and be in budget?

IMHO, the 3.1 sound bars (with a separate sub woofer box) sound a bit more dramatic.
Good luck!

I recently bought the Tannoy surround speakers from Richer Sounds (£500-ish), a Sont £100 DVD/CD player and a £250 Yamaha Amp. Sounds great/good picture quality
