John Lewis currently have the Panasonic TX-P50G20 priced at £899 including a 5 year warranty...

PC World have it at £699 with a 1 year warranty...

And John Lewis have just confirmed they'll price match it, still with the 5 year warranty! smile

Not bad for a TV which had a £1,500 rrp this time last year! biggrin

Why would you post this? What's wrong with you?

How do I explain to my Mrs. that we're not going away for the weekend because a stranger on the internet convinced me to buy a new tv?

hmm? hmmm!??!?

biggrin

(p.s. thank you!)

I love you, I was thinking that the 46G20 with a free panasonic bluray player (through richer sounds VIP promo) was good value at 699! Will give this a shot!

I take it we would have to go into the store for this or can you do this over the phone?

No, you can do the whole thing on the net.

1. Check it's still in stock at PC World --> http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/panasonic-viera-tx-p...

2. Order it from John Lewis --> http://www.johnlewis.com/230906900/Product.aspx

3. Fill out the price match claim form --> http://www.johnlewis.com/help/nkupricematchform.as...

4. Wait a day or so to get an email confirming the price match.

5. Phone them back after they've delivered, and they credit the £200.

I did look at a Samsung 3D. It was pretty bloody impressive seeing the way it could spoof an amazingly realistic 3D picture from the BBC SD coverage of the 6 Nations, but I just feel there's something rather sinister about the thought of sitting on the sofa with my wife and watching TV with glasses on. Certainly better than cinema 3D.

I'm hoping by the time I get to replacing this one, they'll have figured out 3D without glasses. smile

Even better, after seeing this thread and doing a bit of digging,

The Panny mentioned above at PC world (Panasonic TX-P50G20) can be had with another £50 off if you use the voucher code PCW7

which I have just done.

Getting it delivered next weekend for a smidge over £650 (and 1300 Virgin air miles after clicking through)

Cheers for the nudge to finally sort out a new TV smile just need to convince the mrs we *need Sky in time for the masters......

I keep seeing an advert on the back of the Observer for I THINK Gardener Haskins or some place like that who randomly have advertised a 50" Samsung for £499. I think it's only HD Ready but still, a 50" Samsung for under £500 is dirt cheap.

The power of PH. Decided today was the day for a new tele. OH said no bigger than 42". Quick search through PH for the What TV thread and found this one. However size counts and been told no.

Anyway off we trot to Purley Way usual suspects Currys, Commet etc !! Don't want 3D for same reason as above sitting together in our glasses...no thanks.

Anyway long story short agree on Plasma after seeing the tough front screen and even convince that a 50" wil be okay in our living room. Opens up this thread on phone in Currys, guy says yep will match those prices and give 5 yr warranty. Cool but can't have TV for a few weeks. Into Comet they won't lower from £1150 to beat that price. Same in Costco. Into John Lewis on Purley Way. Open up PH, show the links and price matched 5 yr warranty pick up on Thursday.

Gotta Love PH some days. Thanks Chris !!

Ah, that would make more sense. I actually came very close to buying one of those originally. It was only the fact that I had the wrong car in which to bring it home with me that stopped me from doing so.

Once I got home, I looked it up online to see if there was a better price anywhere else, but the threads about it on AV Forums were enough to make me decide I'd had a lucky escape! There were people on their 3rd or 4th set in a year and still having problems with the latest one...

Mind mentioning the store? - I'm finally getting round to heading into the Glasgow store tomorrow as I checked on the phone about the price match and they would'nt say for sure that they would honour the online price form due to the warranty lengths.

If you have any problems with that, PM me an email address and I'll forward the email confirmation I got from them. They've also confirmed that they've made the refund.

Cheers guys, PM sent. It was either going to be a 42" 3D TV with a projector or a 50" proper job of a TV. I think this option is better for my relationship, can't see the first option going down too well!
