Active noise cancelling earphones

So I've had my Bose 30 wireless earphones for over a week and for the life of me can't hear any difference when fully "up" except the obvious (and free) reason that ear buds will have some static noise reduction!

In fact if the ANR is turned right down it makes listening to music useless! Without music it's just a load of hissing and feedback - both ears.

Any views? Hopefully I've got a faulty set!

Update: Finally got around to ringing Bose today. Nice guy said it could be faulty and agreed to replace it. Even arranged UPS to collect it from my house at no charge.

Can't fault the service just hope the new one is an improvement.
