Stupid question about 4K televisions.

We are going to upgrade our TV to a 43 (ish) inch TV. I would like 55 but she says no it's far too big for the room and I somewhat agree (No, we are not council!).
But there are some older HD TV's floating about rather than 4K ones. But is the picture quality any better? I know the resolution playing back would be the same but then again as it is capable of a higher one then perhaps the lower one would be? Hope that makes sense!
Like to point out that it will only be used for HD content via Freesat.
