This has piqued my interest, but I normally find these american types of series a bit soapy, a bit eastenders with gimmick, something for everyone- a finely crafted balance of dumb argueing people interplay for her and action/gore for him, does this feel better?
You're clearly watching the wrong shows. It's definitely not like that, the same goes for shows like True Detective, The Wire, Deadwood etc.eps said:

here's a Q - do you think that Ed Harris is actually the Yul Brynner character?
I was wondering that whilst watching last night - it could be a twist thing somewhere...Hmm....

Very slick and well produced.
I don't think the Ed Harris character is a guest as the shots in the first scene seemed to hit him even though there was no effect on him.
I think the concept might develop along the lines of he becomes the hero to the androids as he is the one who fights back against their slavery and leads a revolution. Think Rutger Hauer in Blade Runner...
The bigger picture referred to by the script-writer and security lady made me think of potential military applications and running scenarios in West World.
It'll be interesting to see where they go with it.

Enjoyed it, but felt watching the film first was a good idea. The series really just drops you in it and I was glad I had the knowledge of the film to have a better understanding of what was going on.
Surprised at how the guests are basically nothing more than extras at the moment, it's basically the movie flipped on its head at the moment.
A little confused about Ed Harris, if I remember correctly guns won't physically fire at guests, but he seemed to be taking the hits.

What's the 'thing' with the flies - or is it just a coincidence (surely not)?
It was a way of showing who the androids were and that they couldn't kill any living thing.Just read an interview with Nolan that the guns are designed to fire low impact bullets when fired at guests (unlike the film where iirc they just wouldn't fire), so that explains away Ed Harris getting physically hit by bullets.
I think he's a guest, but clearly has some sort of agenda.

What if a low-impact bullet hit you in the eye?I think he's a guest, but clearly has some sort of agenda.
Seems like a bit of a flawed plot-point.
