Way way too far up its own script writers ego for me. Very disappointing series. I wonder if having world known actors in a little BBC series has driven a desire to see them overact, if only to get their money's worth.

I know the show was scheduled months in advance, but considering the events of last week the BBC might have considered that certain aspects of that plotline were inappropriate?!

BTW I agree - a pile of up-itself retcon bullst. I suspect the meth-lab on the set was real and Moffat and Gatiss have been smoking the stuff.

Loved it ; just mesmerising TV .Lost me at times but so what ? Obviously I am in a small minority -or am I ? Or was it all a dream ....

Here's an idea- my wife very kindly bought me the box set of the best Holmes - Jeremy Brett. Now he may have been absolutely wonderful - apparently only rarely coming out of character for days on end - but God above- traditional treatment of the stories just doesn't work any more. Enjoy what we've got say I .

It was mildly entertaining but it wasn't Sherlock.

I really wanted to enjoy this. Sadly, and whilst I didn't hate it, I found it neither engaging nor especially enjoyable - certainly more WTF than meh.

Is the quality and feel of 'old Sherlock' gone forever ?

Did an arch-villainess mentally torture her brother last week?? Genuinely not sure what events you mean?

Apparently Paul Weller played the Viking. Couldn't be bothered rewinding to check if it was THAT Paul Weller.
See, I couldn't tell you what programme we're talking about from that observation.

It seems to be Sherlock in name only....I really want to like it, but it's awfully hard. I knew they would make it a modern version of the AC-D stories, but they've gone completely OTT.

The most dispiriting aspect is not that I did not understand what was going on anymore, I just did not care.
I felt likewise.

My wife said to me about 20 minutes from the end "Do you know what's going on?".

I looked up from my phone and said "Oh, I gave up caring half an hour ago".

It was a dreadful last series - I wish they hadn't bothered...

Children murdering children?!

Hey ho, guess it didn't register with that many people then.

Anyhoo, last week Mark Gatiss answered criticism of the previous episode with a poem. That might have been genius had the finale of the series been a doozy rather than a pile of rip-off tosh.

Did Moffat and Gatiss think they were bringing the cultural references of Hannibal Lecter, Saw, James Bond in Skyfall and The Crystal Maze to a new audience or did they genuinely think that was an original idea?!

It deserves to be torn to shreds by the critics and hopefully this week the writers will be a bit more circumspect.

You mean the Katie Rough murder? I didn't even consider it to be honest-I don't see any similarity, tragic as it was.

Sums it up for me about the writers and what they did to Dr. Who (aparently, ive never watched it) and now Sherlock;

They've got form — making Doctor Who all but unwatchable. In their hands, a cult children's show was turned into an in-joke for the kind of people who think they are too bright to watch TV.

My wife loved it, I hated it. The CGI when they jumped out of the window, when the grenade went off was terrible, too. A shame, as I quite like Mark Gattis's work. I shall not be buying the BR when released, I never want to watch it again..

Couldn't keep up with it and got a bit bored with it.

They may as well have killed him off.

It's a Daily Mail critique, so it's full of typos, grammatical errors and they misquote the best line of dialogue in the whole show, but the sentiment is bang on IMO.

I've been a Dr Who fan all my life (I'm 53 now) but i lost interest with the last few series, possibly when Matt Smith took over the role, simply because the storylines became more and more convoluted and preposterous imo.

THat was one point where I thought it might be a dream, or a joke.

What else has Gatiss done?

Yes I enjoyed both of those. Love the League, that was long ago now, and in conjunction with others.
I want GRR Martin to write Sherlock. biggrin
