The Gentlemen

Familiar Guy Richie territory: geezers, geezerettes, gypsies, toffs, and weed.

First 3 episodes were quite entertaining.
4 and 5 formulaic / self-parody.
6 and 7 a bit more intriguing / menacing.
8 (final) too clever for its own good, shamelessly scrabbling for a finale that sets up sequels.
Dialogue that’s a cross between Dickensian formal and 1980s-style business-speak soon becomes very tedious.
And never, ever, ever, should one wear brown in town, innit.

I started watching "Better Than Us" before realising it's a Russian production. Are Netflix not taking part in sanctions against the evil empire? It looked promising but it didn't feel right watching anything produced by and starring Orcs, as Ukrainians call them. So I'm going to give it a miss on principle.

I don't think it was cancelled, the production company ceased to exist.

For me, Loudermilk's father ruined the last series. Just immensley annoying.

Quite enjoyed the Ben, Father Mike and the Mugsy characters though.
The fisherman guy cracks me up!
A fantastic back story..

3 Body Problem. Intriguing sci fi.

We are not alone.
I read the book a few years back and found it derivative and full of junk science that had me rolling my eyes. So I'm a little wary of watching the TV show.

I might give it a go though
I haven't read the books so didn't realise it was a trilogy. Got to wait now for the other 2+ seasons (they're saying they may split the other two books to make more seasons).

I would quite like for them to make a good series that actually comes to some sort of conclusion? I'm getting a bit fed up of being drip fed stuff over years, I want a start, a middle and an end?

Streaming services really aren't, I understand they don't want people dipping in and out of subscriptions, but if they consistently make good stuff, then people will stay.

As for season 1, it was ok, sat through it but it was about average for the stuff that's being put out these days.

Fat Friends

Presumably where all the Gavin And Stacey cast met and decided to create that show, it’s a shame we seldom make hard hitting comedy drams like this anymore.
I've just started this and actually quite enjoying it smile

I watched three episodes but I'm bored with it now - sounds like it's not going to get any better

Finished 3 Body Problem last night.

I'll be generous and give it 7/10. It was OK but I was expecting better and had been looking forward to watching it, but ultimately felt disappointed by it.

I watched the longer 30 episode Tencent Chinese adaptation a few months ago, and I have to say I much preferred that version to this big Budget Netflix effort.

Just finished Homicide: New York which is a true crime documentary made by the creator of the Law and Order TV series. Five episodes which tells the story of 5 different murder cases in the city. Will give it a 7.5/10.

I don’t know if it’s already been mentioned but we’ve just watched an episode of Somebody Feed Phil. I don’t know what is wrong with the presenter but he comes across as a complete tosser. Constantly pulling stupid childish faces, speaking like he’s in a 90’s kids comedy show and just generally being over the top.

Definitely won’t be watching another episode and I suggest You don’t either.

Many claim Star Wars was based on Dune. Oh yeah and Aliens is Assault on Precinct 13, which is Fort Bravo, which is etc etc. Think you'll find there's very few original flicks nowadays.

Star Wars is based on many older stories, not least the archetypical Hero's Journey, but also Akira Kurosawa’s Yojimbo and The Hidden Fortress. In fact George Lucas approached Toshiro Mifune (the actor who played the protagonist in Yojimbo) to play the part of Obi-Wan Kenobi but he declined.

I haven't seen it but if this is about the universe, the chances of life elsewhere is very, very high. The chances of evolved, intelligent life elsewhere, is very, very small.
There are an estimated one septillion stars in the universe (one with twenty four zeros), and over 100 billion stars just in our galaxy.

So the chances are surely near certain that somewhere, a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away there has been, or is, intelligent life.

It's such a shame as I enjoy that genre. Phil is just too hard to watch.

I really struggle to understand this view because I think Phil is one of the loveliest people to watch on TV! I've watched all the episodes since it started and it's one of my favourite food shows due to how genuinely enthusiastic he is about it. I also love the fact he brings in the human aspect to the places he visits as well; it's a good balance between high-end places and local hot spots.

I have friends who share your views though so it's certainly not a minority, just wanted to offer a counterpoint smile
