Theres no place on the BBC for a car show, its why TG evolved into an entertainment show. Its pretty easy to point out why.

1 People claim they want to watch car reviews, IMO they are all lying / kidding themselves / making a point for the sake of making a point. If you actually want to go buy a car you go and test drive one. Theres actually too many dam cars to review these days for it to have any point as a consumer reviews show it would end up like a car version of QVC.

2 They are time and broadcast limited, TG became and entertainment show as it just cannot do reviews in the same way that the likes of EVO, Chris Harris, Autoexpress etc can. They can bumble about with a few guys at a track / road / even and put together a decent review and have it up on youtube within a day max. A one hour sold on BBC2 for 12 week runs isn't meant for car reviews.

3 Automotive programs in the style of Gas Monkey, American Hot Rod etc are just not in the mass market for the audience of British TV, we have our own versions of stuff and they largely suck, any car resto show we have had has been an utter stefest, wheeler dealers and the recent ones (all of which were so bad I have forgotten their names) simply prove that car based TV is not in the interest of most of the country.

4 When it comes to doing a proper petrol heads car thing, theres very people like Chris Harris, Metcalfe etc who can talk in front of the camera and drive and really show their love and understanding of cars.

The last thing we need is some re hashed scripted TG with a different set of presenters. If your going to do a proper car show here it needs to be well managed and online really. I'd have a proper youtube channel with Harris, Metcalfe, Rowan Atkinson, Tony Dorn, and DC.

What about Andy Wilman? He was an entertaining presenter on old top gear and current top gear is basically his and Jeramy's baby

Bit of a curve ball but how about Brian Johnson?

Petrol head and has done car programs in the past so a bit of experience.
Can't remember the name but he had a 6 part series that was shown on Dave (or re run) and it was pretty dire, no presenting skills.

Robert Llewellyn owns a Prius and his only interest in cars is making them greener, a car show presenter he isn't. Brian Johnson is a good shout, straight talking and a genuine petrolhead.

Am I the only one who doesn't see the hype about Chris Evans? I know his a massive petrolhead and has a great car collection, but I think Top Gear would be awful with him hosting.
+1

Can't stand him. Pretentious knob
