Netflix - What gems have you found? (NO SPOILERS) (Vol. 2)
Discussion
Well if we're going to do petty annoyances...
The incessant use of fake transmissions in all Netflix 'real life' programmes.
I get that it's a device for moving the narrative, but the fake 'TV commentary' in the F1 series, fake TV news reports often played over the top of real news reports, fake emergency services radio transmissions etc in their documentaries.
All with the same crap tinny speaking into a tin can sound to them. I tend to spend more time spotting the fake reporting than I do watching the programme. It's really distracting.
And don't get me started on the too close for comfort close up interviews to black background and even worse using the ring lights that reflect in the subject's eyes during he interview...!
Oh and the 'coming next...'

The Stranger. What an absolute load of tripe. Predictable from the onset, waited out for a major twist and there wasn’t one. Probably didn’t help by the thought of Adam about to break in to a Geordie accent and talk about kitchen layouts and that The Stranger looks like my friend...
Not a plot
Netflix should start marketing those trademark invisibility baseball caps

I really enjoyed the Albon episode, although I like him.
I do get the feeling that Netflix is now the story though, not F1. They seem to be breaking the 4th wall a lot with various people referring to them, no longer hidden in the background; 'I see it's your weekend to have them'
ETA my first time watching F1 in 4k and what a difference!
To be fair, I got the impression from the Son In Law that it was all a bit of a joke in the paddock 'having Netflix', especially as a certain team with a Mardy driver actively blamed them in part for their poor show that weekend.I do get the feeling that Netflix is now the story though, not F1. Feel so sorry for Nico, but a mess of his own making there I felt, Danny Ric still the clown of the paddock, and Horner shouting 'come on geraldine' was brilliant.
I am not ok with this. 7 episodes, about 20-25 minutes each, I watched them all tonight. It's a bit The end of the fking world, a bit Stranger Things, and a bit of Carrie. It's made by the people who made TEOTFW and the people who made Stranger Things . A High School teen (Sophia Lillis, Beverly in the IT films), finds out she has powers when she gets angry/pissed off/scared.

Fab. Thanks. But is it any good?
Had anyone seen The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez?
I've just finished episode 5 (of 6 I think) and it's both compelling and utterly, utterly horrific. I actually can't think of the words strong enough to convey what I think of the people who were supposed to be looking after that poor child.
I'm not easily affected by things on TV but this is truly shocking.

I got as far as the end of the opening sequence this evening. It's not going to be easy viewing.I've just finished episode 5 (of 6 I think) and it's both compelling and utterly, utterly horrific. Late to the party on this one as I definitely saw it mentioned here but I finally watched 'Top Boy'
When I say watched I actually mean binged all 3 seasons in a few days. It's fantastic, gripping, tense, and bloody sad too, you can tell it's a life that too many are surrounded by.
For anyone who is planning watching it on Netflix be careful as there are 3 seasons with the first 2 coming under 'Top Boy Summerhouse' and they both are 4 episodes long.
The 3rd season is from 2019 and is found under 'Top Boy' and has 10 episodes but bizarrely when you click on it it says season 1.
Definitely watch Summerhouse from 2011 first.

Here's another Netflix Germany that we watched at the weekend but I'm sure it must be on in the UK.
American Son.
At the start it was billed as a 'Netflix Television Event', and we thought wtf is that supposed to be?
Anyway, it's 90 minutes in one room, after 10 minutes you'll think of giving it a miss, after 30 minutes you'll think of giving it a miss but you won't be able to, after an hour you'll be gripped, it really lures you in, and the ending, well, bugger me.
I wasn't expecting it to be so moving, in a really weird way.
7/10 racist stereotypes from us.

I’ve finished the second season of Narcos Mexico. Excellent - as good as it promised to be.
The problem is though, that everything else pales in comparison. What else would you recommend?
El Chapo is probably the most similar, very close in quality after a few episodes (once Netflix upped the budget)The problem is though, that everything else pales in comparison. What else would you recommend?
Sacred Games is easily just as good
