So I am just downloading the original movie to watch this weekend.

Will I finally get the reference made in the Itchy and Scratchy Land episode of the Simpsons?

He's been clearly referred to as 'Gunslinger', which is Brinner's character.

I did wonder why I had it already.

Obviously Obama didn't fancy the competition so made an executive order...

He's also now been clearly defined as a guest, not a host.

My daughter always switches on sub titles for what ever series she is watching. Used to annoy me until I realised how much more I got out of any scene with a lot of dialogue.
yes
Makes me wonder if that's part of elevates some foreign shows.
Could be. Although you've also got to fully concentrate on the screen and not be distracted by anything.

Watched it now.

thoughts

Not sure why there'd be con fusion over ED Harris, it seemed obvious that he is being presented as human.

What was the music being played when the safe robbery was going on?

There is some over arc bug story, like I first guessed at, I would guess there has to be for this to keep attention over many series. I'd wager we'll get a BSG/Dollhouse thing. I can see the influence of Humans already.

oved how we got dropped straight, but some of the early chat was very clunky, very exposition heavy. The English guy, didn't like him, his acting didn't come across as great.

Nice throwback to the film.

Anthony Hopkins, his 'reveries', in his dotage has he got tired of live and letting something else start up? It reminds me of something else, but not sure what.

The top woman, she has some interesting mannerisms. Wouldn't be surprised if she is a robot/android/whatever...a la whatsit from Bladerunner, or the missing 5 from BSG. Maybe even Ed Harris...from long ago, he is after something, for some reason.

I'm loving this already and I'm so glad they didn't just reproduce the film from start to finish.

I really hope they do a quality job with it and don't drag it out over too many seasons a la Lost.

Roll on the next episode.

The film has a very small arc, I think it could possibly be stretched over two episodes, or a 4 ep mini-series, but it couldn't sustain a 8-10 part series.
That's why it needs something else. I think the goals of the company owners are where it's at, and of course the conflict between them and the shareholders/customers and ultimately, the computers.
At the moment, I feel no empathy for the robots, I wonder if that'll change.

I hope they have a good set of writers.

An orchestral rearrangement of Paint It Black by The Rolling Stones. There was a well known classical version done in the 70s/80s by the London Symphony Orchestra on their Classic Rock album so its not a new idea - but this wasn't it - very effective anyway.

But not Sky irked

Anyhoo after a busy week finally sat down to watch E01. Dark, intriguing, subversive, addictive. I can't wait to see how this develops.

It was pretty good I thought. The fly was a clever device.

The two British characters are obviously going to be villains in some way - because British.

The original film was written & directed by Michael Crichton, who of course went on the write Jurassic Park. Another theme park that starts going off the rails and tries to kill people. Like Alton Towers.

From the pre screening interviews with some of the creators I saw, the humans are all the villains, ultimately. Turning around the basic premise of the film - in that, Yul Brynner was the robot bad guy. Now, the humans are the bad guys and we ultimately feel sympathy for the robots. At least, that was the basic premise.

But the sooner shouty British guy gets bumped off the better.

Even with him being specifically referred to as a guest? If he was a host acting out of sorts they'd have picked up on it.

We know the site is 30 years old plus, we know that the main programmer hasn't been around that long, we can see Ed is old.
We know that Anthony inserts stuff that others don't know about, so that's at least one case of acting on his own, seemingly anyway.
The organisation seems to be based on cell structure, with others not knowing what everyone is up to.
Then we have that huge subterranean basement (one of many) which hasn't been visited in such a time that it's been flooded. Where the big boss was already chatting, and had access via other means.
