I love theway people are talking about the characters they like/dislike. Its so good how those loyalties are strained and pushed t oneside as certain events happen! Shows the quality and depth of the writing that this can happen so many times over. Trust me it will get deeper and deeper.

Another excellent episode.

I had intended to read the book in step with the shows but I couldn't help but read it through to the end.

Cracking stuff! Great ending(s) smile

Need to go and buy the next one now.

Somehow or other the books have passed by my radar, but I was really looking forward to this. I wasn't around when it was screened though so had to record the first 4 episodes to watch at a more convenient time.
And I have a complaint! I watched them all back to back last night & I am hooked. Great story, interesting characters, superb filming & backdrops, I need to watch more. Now.

Great stuff. Almost wished I didnt watch any episodes and save them all up on Sky planner and watch them all in 1 go. Brilliant!

Not sure that poor horse deserved what it got though yikes (or Stark's mate at the end, bet that'll be sore in the morning hehe)

I know! How the frack does a show that started so strong just keep getting better?
That last scene was elecric, as was the Eeyrie scene and the dragaons head...and the....etc

And how godsdamn big was the Mountain? His lil brother is 6'5!

My ears must be getting old though, or my telly is ste, I couldn't understand what the sneaky lord said to the young Stark girl just before the boulder brothers got it on, and I didn't get what the gaoler said to the imp either. Even after rewinding a few times.

That bit pissed me off at the end, in the book Jaime doesnt get involved in the fight. The whole point of Jaimes character at that point is he is the best swordsman in the land, it didnt feel right seeing Eddard holding his ground against him.

Eddard isnt meant to be a great swordsman, thats not his thing. The whole fight was changed from the book and I thought the book did it better.

Also the whole gay thing was overdone, the books only imply that Renly is gay with Loras, its never so overt as that.

Still an excellent show though overall though!

Not knowing the book I was on the edge of my seat for that, and was gutted that Ned 'lost' (by default)

Littlefinger told the girl that the mare was in heat, hence why Gregors mount acted up, which was why he was so angry with it and killed it. It was a cheap trick and Gregor wasnt happy, The Hound saved him though.

What the goaler said was nonsense, he talks funnily in the books as well. He is meant to be a bit mental, driven that way by the cells I think, because he is so close to the edge all the time. In the book the cells also slope towards the edge to make it hard to sleep in them, not sure that came accross in the show.

He would have lost even more had it come to it. Jaime is the best figher around, its frequently mentioned in the books and is vital to the later plots. No man can stand before him. If he had continued the fight he would have had to kill Ned, which would have fked up the whole plot.

It was an interesting bit of action for the non book readers, made for good tv

Maude the jailer tells Tyrion to "you go sleep little dwarf man, sleep real good"

Its a reference to prisoners in the cells falling asleep and rolling out off the edge, the cells in the show are much larger than the ones I envisioned from the books

Watching it again the cell floor does slope towards the abyss.

Did feel sorry for Jory though frown

Still think the casting in this is spot on, Tryion is just brilliant!

This series was made for HD! You have a sense of being there, it looks so 'real' - the sets, scenery, costumes are all absolutley amazing - add into the pot the fine acting from everyone, and it's one of the best things I have ever seen on TV.

Would I be correct in assuming that all the bickering families set aside their hatred for each other to fight against the tribes accross the sea?

I wouldn't count on that, it was very curious to see the beard from across the sea chatting to the eunuch...scratchchin hmmmm

Glad to see there wasn't an advert till after 20 minutes in...if this had been on Five it would be two hours long with adverts.

Ned doesnt have a reputation as a great swordsman because he does do tourney fighting. He is well regarded as a great warrior and leader of men. He is thought of in a different regard to Jamie that is all. Jamie is a tourney sword and has the great reputation becuase he fights for the crowd. Im sure I remember somewhere in the books Ned being refered to as a great swordsman aswell?

Sorry if ive manage to him up but didnt ned also win the only tourney he ever entered?

I always saw Ned more as a great leader rather than a spectacular individual warrior. In the books it talks about when they were fighting Robert's Rebellion and Ned and 6 others went up against 3 of the Mad Kings Kingsguard and it specifically says that if Howleen Reed hadnt saved Ned he would have died. I am not saying Ned is a bad fighter, just that Jaime was meant to be the best after Baristan Selmy, who is now quite old anyway. In the book Ned and Jaime never fight but I got the distinct impression it would not have gone well for Ned had they fought one on one. Maybe I am over analysing it!
