Most pre-book tickets of all time according to the times yesterday.
Odeon have sold over 500,000 tickets already, so that's nearly 1 in every 100 people in the UK watching it at a single cinema chain with tickets already (Cineworld have a bigger market share, and Vue are just behind, so it's safe to say it's going to be huge!)

I notice they've added additional screenings at my local in the night on Wednesday/Thursday which are already packed out. Annoyingly 3D is getting the biggest screens at my local, despite the demand appearing to be (slightly) higher for 2D.

Our two screenings (2D, 00:01 Thursday and 19:30 Friday) have all but sold out aside from a few random seats.

I'm sure I read pre-sale is already well over $50m in the US.

There were two? Bugger! I only saw one, "How Star Wars changed the World" where they met with a number of fans, that had different Star Wars related hobbies. What was the 2nd one, I'll have to try and get it on demand.
That one was OK. T he one was much better, it was a history, and had stuff with Kurtz, very good.

My local appears to be the opposite. 6 screens for the 2D version and only 2 with 3D for the 0:01 showing.

50/50 2D/3D for the midnight showings in my local. Then moves to third 3D and two-thirds 2D Thur/Fri/Sat.

Just looking at where I'm going... IMAX Odeon Uxbridge, seems my 0001 IMAX screening is sold out, but all others, 3D/2D, have availability.

BBFC confirm that the film will be rated 12A.

I had already booked tickets for Saturday with my 5 year old. Wasn't sure what to do so I'm going on Thursday night on my own now to see if it is suitable.

Not booked tickets yet but my 5 year old son loves Star Wars and i promised that we would go a few months ago. The wife doesn't seem too keen due to the rating comparing other films content such as "mission impossible" and even "burlesque" FFS!

He loves the cinema and sits there quietly all through the film before anyone has a moan about other humans being in the cinema lol

Same in our house. I can't believe it can be worse than Luke cutting his own head off in Empire, or Darth Maul getting cut in half. Rancor, sarlack etc. I was six in 1977 and went to see Star Wars.

This is the BBFC reasoning...

VIOLENCE
There are frequent scenes of moderate violence, including use of blasters and lightsabers, and dogfights between spaceships. Sight of blood and injury detail is limited and brief.

THREAT
Occasional scenes of moderate threat include characters being interrogated using 'the Force', which it is implied causes them pain, and characters being held at lightsaber-point.

There is infrequent use of very mild bad language ('hell', 'damn').

....sounds just like any other Star Wars film.

I've never been that much of a fan but making an effort this time. Train to London to take my seat at the Odeon Leicester Square on Wednesday evening. I'll give you all a cheery wave from the red carpet!!

I have the same debate going on, but my nearly five year old daughter insists she is coming to see it, together with her six and nine year old brothers. These are not just boys' films any more and she has seen all the other films.

My lad is 6 and we are booked in on the 24th.
A few of my wives friends were 'shocked' I was taking him and that she was letting me. JJ has said kids should see this and frankly I can't see it being any worse than the original trilogy. Plus there would be a riot if I didn't take him, he loves Star Wars.

I'm not sure if I've seen that version, is this yet more tinkering by Lucas? It doesn't seem his style what with Greedo shooting first and all. biggrin

Looking back, it's lucky that Luke wasn't inspecting the light sabre too closely when he first switched it on in 'A New Hope'.

Ben hands Luke the sabre.

LUKE
What is it?

BEN
Your fathers lightsabre. This is the
weapon of a Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy
or as random as a blaster. Wait, don't push that...

Luke pushes a button on the handle. A long beam shoots out
about four feet and drills a hole between his eyes.
His lifeless body falls to the floor

BEN
...button. Oh, bugger.

I feel I've crossed a massive loser line.

Got terrified of seeing what happens in the film now people have seen the premier that I panic booked for tomorrow night at midnight all by my lonesome. Wifey has just spent half an hour laughing at me frown
