Anthony Hopkins a reluctant psychic investigator is called out of retirement to help catch a serial killer.

Much, much better than the premise, I found it to be quite a powerful film 8.5/10
Ooo, that sounds good. Anthony Hopkins is a screen legend, his ability can lift anything a few notches.

This is the film where Anthony's character uses his powers to become a satnav during a car chase, right?

Creed

Essentially a remake of Rocky 1.

Michael B Jordan and Stallone were both awesome - not quite sure if Stallone is worthy of an Oscar nom but still great nonetheless.

The camera work during the fights was brilliant, the story (whilst simple and predictable) was good, the characters had enough depth to them to be invested in their arcs and of course as you'd expect being a Rocky movie there were some serious tear-jerker moments.

8/10

Does it also have some kind of epic training sequence set to music, as in Rocky IV?

Nowhere near as epic.

It is definitely 'Rocky for the modern generation'.

It has its own original score, it feels new and tailored to Creed however there is something about it that still feels like Rocky. The training montage uses this score, in my opinion it doesn't live up to Stallone climbing a mountain while 'Hearts on Fire' is playing but its still good.

"Gonna Fly Now" does make an appearance towards the end of the film though, brought a tear to my eye when it happened. I'm not even ashamed to admit it!

In fact, I might go home and watch it again tonight now!

For anyone who hasn't seen it 'The Secret In Their Eyes' is on BBC2 on Sunday night - well, 12.40 am.

After Pulp Fiction, the 2nd best film I've ever seen - an Argentinian crime film about a long unresolved case during the repression of the Junta. Fantastically scripted and acted, with some laugh out loud (usually black) humour, a moving sub-plot, thrills galore and plenty of twists and turns, and some genuinely scary moments.

Picked by Mark Kermode as his pick of the weekend on the movie review slot on R5 today, when he also mentioned the new English language update whichI'd not heard of, and which he notes is not as good as the original.

A fantastic film, I can't recommend it highly enough

Cheers BOTC, I'll set that to record. As mentioned on another thread, if you haven't seen it pls do take the opportunity to record or watch Any tomorrow (Saturday) night. Amazingly moving documentary.

I don't think you'll be disappointed. It really is top quality. Now I just need to convince my brother to see it at long last and to put up with sub-titles!

Goosebumps 7/10

A good film, but let down by the start being quite poor and the resolution seemingly being rushed. Didn't expect much though, so was pleasantly surprised.

James Bond - Spectre. Sex, violence and Dymo labelling. "This isn't over yet". At 142 minutes, it certainly isn't. I thought that the film was a bit over-long.

Anyway, there's some comedy in the film when Bond interrogates a mouse at gunpoint. "Who sent you?" and "Who are you working for?" The mouse resisted.

agree, great film. excellent plot and manages to do everything well from really dark and harrowing to the light flirty banter in the office.

After first seeing the film whilst flying to Kansas city back in 98, I was really pleased to see Gattaca on Netflix.

This is such a beautiful film regarding genetic modification vs natural selection. I have to give it a 9/10. It may not be critically acclaimed or remembered but it is a gem

Spectre, a 2 and a half hour long film that should have been 1 and a half hours long.

Love it, one of those films you can watch simply for "the look" of it

Amy
What a brilliant documentary and a real masterclass in how to tell that kind of story effectively yet respectfully.

Cobain: Montage of Heck
As Amy was so good we tried the Kurt Cobain one which is terrible.

It's extremely slow. After the first half hour - which mainly consists of long stretches of home videos of Cobain not really doing anything - all that we had learned was he doodled a bit and he was a grumpy teenager because his parents got divorced. Wow. All presented as if this was highly unsual and somehow proved how special he was.

Couldn't cope with much more so we had to switch it off. Might try and watch the rest in short blocks instead because it seems like it should be interesting.

If you ever wondered how important a decent video editor is, watch those two documentaries back to back.

Watched Anvil as well last night, entertaining enough for a rock-doc but it was almost like they gave up at the end and wanted to get the film finished ASAP.
6.5/10 from me.

I saw her father on the telly this week, he was describing how this film is a poor representation of her last year and not accurate, leaving out a lot.
He is hoping to make a more representative film himself.
