It worries me that there are people out there buying equity on credit alone, with no knowledge of the risks and the belief that they can only make money out of it.

I would like to know what % of the income of the 'wealthy' is derived from seminars as opposed to investments; the 'old couple' admitted they made significantly more from seminars. However there is a kernel of truth in what these people are saying - if you're smart (not necessarily highly educated), work for youself, get up early, work very hard, don't let failure deter you and take some financial risks you stand a greater chance of getting 'rich' than through more traditional career paths.
Agreed. A bit of luck helps too i think.

Similarly those running the training systems for Amyway in the UK made far more from those than the actual Amway business until the OfT got hold of them and Amway had to pull the plug.

Now the sheep follow the leaders in their new ventures...

Spot on

Saddens me the amount of young kids swallowing the "you can't get anywhere without a degree" tosh

You only have to witness the amount of them now that seem to be saying "right, I've got my sociology degree, that'll be 28k PA please.........hello?.......hello?"

If I could go back to my 14/16/18 year old self with advice...........

Unfortunately for every one that has made a packet - usually selling tosh like this to the easily led - there are many more who have failed, but they never talk about or show them as it's not good TV.

Likewise all of the property developer shows that were all the rage a year or two back. It would have been a good reality check to show a few people (of which I'm sure there were plenty) who lost their life's savings and their shirts as well.

For the young couple with £4k of debt if they come on my course costing £4k I can show them how to make £2k immediately to help pay it off nuts

That old couple look half dead. Hate the way they call themselves expert property investors when they simply got lucky with the market. Would love to see them try it from scratch again now.
I'm afraid my view on 'property investors ' remain unprintable. Every Tom ,Dick & Harry jobbing builder turned themselves into one, in a market where failure was nigh on impossible...

Perhaps what was most shocking was the complete lack of humility and self awareness from both the woman with the stupendously thick toy boy husband and the David Brent lookalike. If only they could see just what prats they came across as - if that's wealth, I'd rather stay poor.

That guitarist reminded me of Doyle from the Professionals, with added gayness.

I got up extra early this morning and did my money chanting exercises.
"I am an excellent money manager. I will be a millionaire, I am an excellent money manager. I will be a millionaire" but unfortunately (or perhaps should say fortunately) I'm still sat here at work.
Am I doing something wrong. Do I need to read a book or go on a course ?

These types of operations have far more in common with evangelical religion than actual, practical business and/or investment advice. They even come ready packaged with their chants, prayers and spells.

And it's obvious that some people become addicted to the seminars (or should they be called "serrvices") rather than the idea of actually running some sort of practical business or investment scheme.

Watching that post-it-note woman was just cringeworthy.

It was actually quite sad. She really was being exploited, in my opnion.

But, if she was enjoying herself at these seminars - and it wasn't putting her into debt, then I don't see any real problem. It was, in effect, her hobby.

It's the people who ended up in debt, like the woman in Kent or those extremely naieve teenagers, that were really being ripped off.

Didn't I hear them say they were making £40k pa from 29 properties? How small are these places?

I bet they were keeping their cards close to their chests - I mean - there might have been a few HMRC officers watching smile

It didn't sound a lot in comparison to the number of properties they held. No doubt, some are probably loss making and some are generating profits.

I'm sure their overall plan is to "make" money on these properties through asset appreciation rather than rental profits. That has been the thinking behind many buy to let property purchases. Whether it will turn out to be a sound methodology for future years remains to be seen.

What was not asked was how did the asset portfolio relates to the debt they had incurred to finance these purchases. The same goes for the lady with the toy boy guitarist in tow. I wonder how much he was leaching out of her portfolio?

They said the total property worth was ~£4million. She also made a comment about needing DSS tennants to house them, so presume she is paid by the council.

Maybe it's an indication that the tide is turning against the notion that money is the only aspiration. I hope so.

Good on them. Bugger them if they are so stupid.
