Wheeler Dealers
Discussion
I liked the abortion of a Subaru WRX they "tastefully modified", initialled it and sold. Then shafted the guy who bought it for thousands. I honestly hope he had a good hard look at himself.
Is there not another programme on the same channel where two mental retarded guys in London try and fix cars? I watched one when they put a Mondeo engine in a Fiesta. It was one of the worst and most pointless bodges I have ever seen.
To be fair I shouldn't laugh as hard as I did, it is a form of exploitation.

Anyone who was labouring under the impression this show was in some way 'cinema verite' needs to re-evaluate the way they consume media.
It's a bit of entertaining flim flam about older/interesting cars.
I haven't met either of the presenters but they come across as the sort of blokes I'd be happy to enjoy a pint at the pub with.

Saw a trail for a Wheeler Dealers spin-off called, Trading Up.
The premise seems to be that Mike starts with a car, and travels the world wheeler dealing his way by part-ex up to something slightly better... all the way up to something a lot better.
(along the lines of that guy who traded from a paperclip all the way to a house)
It starts 2nd April, 9pm, apparently.
I'll certainly be tuning in.

it seems to me that once you figure out Ed's labor charge (60 hours prepping the body), these cars are not really sold at a profit
In the latest episode broadcast here in the UK (featuring the Morris Traveller) Edd makes a not-so-subtle joke about that very fact. It's an entertainment show, and a very good one IMO as it encourages preservation of good cars rather than scrapping due to faults that an ignorant person would be conned into believing will cost ££££'s to fix.
Edd constantly makes reference to how much it would cost to get a pro to do a job for you if you haven't got the tools/equipment/wherewithal to do it yourself.

No,he's a decent enough mechanic but pretty clueless when it comes to bodywork
And, where do you get your credentials from that allow you to come to this conclusion? That is exactly how I fixed up my Astra GTE back in 1998.
He's got a lot better since then. I haven't.

I've been watching the show for a few weeks in the USA. I just saw the Bentley restoration and it seems to me that once you figure out Ed's labor charge (60 hours prepping the body), these cars are not really sold at a profit (of course they get paid for doing the show). Also, I would be curious to see how the cars are looking one or 2 years post restoration. I also saw the Lotus Espirit renovation and it gave me the heebejeebees.
They've at least once gone back to find cars they "restored" - the one I remember was an MX-5 which the owner had pretty-much neglected and it was falling to bits.I'm no Brewer fan but I think the show is OK - I long since stopped caring that if they had to consider their time they'd be losing fortunes, the motor trade is a nasty, dishonest place and making a 'reality' show about it would get everyone locked-up so we have to use a bit of fantasy here!

Didn't he do something similar a few years ago started off with smoething like a £500 Micra and ended up with a yellow MG ZR which the gave away? The premise seems to be that Mike starts with a car, and travels the world wheeler dealing his way by part-ex up to something slightly better... all the way up to something a lot better.

You mean "Chop Shop" yeah I thought Bernie was ok and Leepu would have been dead within a day in a normal workshop until I watched "Classic Car Rescue"Is there not another programme on the same channel where two mental retarded guys in London try and fix cars? Seeing how I usually don't pay much attention until the car is in Edd's shop, I'll probably pass on this new one.The premise seems to be that Mike starts with a car, and travels the world wheeler dealing his way by part-ex up to something slightly better... all the way up to something a lot better.

It's a fun, entertaining TV show first and foremost. It's not meant to be a documentary or filmed Haynes manual. I think they hit the balance just right. The "profit" is done fairly tongue in cheek, even Edd has started mentioning ironically his labour costs, he's probably read the many PH threads!
