It's saying something when 'The Professionals' is being held up as an example of how 'clever' tv used to be and how far society has 'dumbed down' today!
indeed it is, can you think of other programs or other genres that wouldn't get a look in today? .

...they are far better than I remembered.
I have to keep reminding my missus that TV isn't real-life, but I watched an episode of The Professionals recently and thought the scenarios, acting and stunts were all so far fetched they were ridiculous. I lost the will to live after about 3min's and am posting this from the grave, no, really.

I remember watching the first episode of this (I was 10 in 1977) and seeing a lady wearing a fur coat and apparently nothing else... I seem to recall my mother questioning whether it was the "sort of thing I should be watching"
Just read "DI Burnside" was in it...
Apparently they tried to do a remake in "99", but it flopped...

Cowley - Sean Connery (or Richard Wilson ) Can't think of other senior Scot who could match Gordon Jackson.
Bodie - Jason Statham (fits the ex-SAS man image)
Doyle - James Purefoy (with curly wig)
No, no, no.Bodie - Jason Statham (fits the ex-SAS man image)
Doyle - James Purefoy (with curly wig)
As much acting talent as a park bench.
And the weirdest and least convincing mid-Atlantic Sarf Lundun/Noo Yoik accent. Ever.

And do you think Lewis Collins was a Shakespearian heavyweight?
What did he actually do apart from Who Dares Wins! (which I love and brought on Blu-ray recently btw)http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0172484/
Currently working my way through them all (nearly done ), £30 on Play.
So much better without adverts (even skipping through on recorder). The footage is 4:3 and the sound is the original mono - way better than 'updating' it, it's 'as is', or 'as was'.
There are a couple of dodgy episodes that I've had to lamp off but a good 85-90% of episodes are top drawer all the way. It's fairly obvious that Health and Safety is still a twinkle in someone's eye as some of the stunts are patently dangerous as hell including a lot of the driving i.e. ramping up and down curbs sideways at speed without seatbelts
The Professionals stands tall as a quality series regardless of the cars. When I've finished these I'll probably buy The Sweeney set but I'm not too bothered about Minder, it seems a bit 'me too' on the heels of these.
