Mr Bates vs The Post Office
Discussion
Well someone's opened the floodgates.
Sky now claiming an Exclusive:- Sky's Adele Robinson is shown evidence that large sums of money, which could yet be shown to have come from sub-postmasters, was channelled to a Post Office profit and loss account at the height of the IT scandal.
https://news.sky.com/story/horizon-scandal-more-th...
And Ch4 following up yesterdays item " .....There’s growing anger among politicians following the secret recordings – " Hah, a tad late.
https://www.channel4.com/news/post-office-scandal-...
There also appeared to be another recording featured on ITV but I missed part, had Vennells in a meeting where the dodgy accounting was discussed prior to her appearance at the committee.
Edit - As above https://www.itv.com/news/2024-03-28/secret-tape-re...
Another "Exclusive" Wow, to the poster who said "there's more' Think it's here.

I think that is what we may or may not be about to uncover in the next round of the televised investigation.
When does it start anyone?

I worry that this type of attitude to the little people runs through other government agencies like DVLA, HMRC, DWP
This comment really didn't get the attention it deserved.Yes indeed it really is a worry, and possibly a longer list than that.
There's been quite a bit recently about the Single Justice Procedure SJP in magistrates courts. The Evening Standard has been having a go at this for some time of extreme unfairness, cases decided in 45 seconds, the target is 90 seconds by the way, no assurance that any letter to plead the case or for mitigation will ever be read, and because cases are behind closed doors there is no scrutiny.
Like the 85 year old woman prosecuted for no car insurance who was in a care home after breaking her neck.
Even the Magistrates Association is up in arms about it.

BBC have revealed - "Secret papers reveal Post Office knew its court defence was false" And they squandered £100m knowing so.

At the very least we seem to be moving into disbarring territory here and perhaps even PCOJ. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-68663750

Indeed. There was also a TV licensing case last year where a woman with learning difficulties was prosecuted. The council were responsible for managing her financial affairs and forgot to pay. The council then told the court she was guilty.

There is no justice, the whole “justice” system is bent. They will make one landmark “conviction” and be plastered over the news and we the idiots will talk about it for a day and it will all be forgotten after the next TikTok shared video and they will continue as they always did. Convicting little people for nothing “crimes” whilst leaving the establishment elite alone.
This could all have been sorted within 24 hours. It’s been 27 years.
Yeah yeah, tin foil hat etc etc.

I include myself in this.
If the press (papers and TV) did more proper journalism rather than clickbait stuff it maybe different

The publics ability to forget things like this is the main reason this st happens.

As said before the part of the problem is the rolling 24 hour news environment especially with the 3'/4 times a day updates.I include myself in this.

The politicians, the powers that be, the establishment, too many businesses know that if they just ignore things in 48 hours the issues raised will be metaphorically, as the saying went, wrappings for a fish supper.
This is not helped by media chasing stories that are driven by social media clicks and rancid pile ons by largely morons.

Agree with the above. A recent example is the P&O illegal sacking of many staff 2 years ago - then employing replacement staff at below minimum wage (some on under £5 an hour and working 4 months at 12 hours per day and 7 days a week without and day's break it seems). Grant Shaps was going to take action 2 years ago and so it goes on. Ships registered outside UK, so P&O get away with it even when the ships are berthed in UK.
Shapps did act, he acted concerned for TV cameras then did exactly nothing.Gassing Station | TV, Film, Video Streaming & Radio | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
