Hollywood is really running low on ideas, given the amount of remakes and reboots in the last 10 years. Yet we have never have it so good with original, creative and interesting TV shows. And even when a TV show is remade, it can be somewhat better than the original (Battlestar Galactica). What's going on, has all the talent shifted to TV land?

Just found out they are remaking West Side Story. There are some films they should just leave alone.

Considering that West Side Story is essentially a re-telling of Romeo and Juliet, I'm not sure how sacrosanct that film is. smile

I haven't been to see the new Lion King, or Dumbo, or Aladdin. I don't want to see a 'live action remake' of an animation. This video explains it better than I can https://youtu.be/4LddR4UF9q8.

This is a still from the start of the video, if Lion King looked like the one on the right, I would have been there straight away.

It's an interesting video. The removal of the 'magic' was something that GRace talked about a while ago, the 'I just cannot wait to be king.' bit being a great example.
Whether you like it or not, the LAR are gonna keep coming. UNsure here, but I don't think I've seen one that I've enjoyed enough to watch again, let alone compare to the original.

that vid does remind me of this one, another vid which dissects a mistake Disney made 20 odd years ago. biggrin

I still can't believe that they're making a LAR of "Your Name". I honestly don't understand what a LAR will add to it other than pandering to some filmgoers prejudice towards anime.

I bet they use Western actors too, and transplant the action to America rather than Japan. Again, to pander to some filmgoers prejudices.

Another great video, and I can see where you're coming from on the comparison - change for good reason rather than change for change's sake.

I don't think I have seen Treasure Planet but now I think I want to.

In the link that you previously posted, the quote stated "will put an Americanised twist on the premise, transplanting the events into the Chicago area" c.f. 'Ghost in the Shell' LAR, and the Japanese horror movies that were 'tranlsated' for American audiences i.e. no subtitles.

New Home Alone script:

  • Adults leave the house*
  • kid picks up phone, dials a number*
  • Mom's mobile rings*
Kid: Mom! You forgot me!

Mom: Oh my gosh! We're only down the road, hold on, we'll be back in a moment.

*The End*

Likewise the opening credits of BBC sitcom "Terry and June" where they are in a shopping centre looking for each other.

Or the Woody Allen film (I forget which) where one character is forever phoning his secretary whenever he is near a landline so that she knows which number to call him on.

I liked the re-re-re-re-make live action one. The new one looks a bit like a cross between that and Despicable Me.

Actually I'm a bit fed up with modern animated film cartoon stuff, It's always the same childish stuff with the hidden adult edge. They all look identical as well as I'm they seem to use the same 3D rendering engine.
