Bored and sarcastic last night... bloke's LR collection was "thrilling" etc!
I caught about 10 minutes of this and turned over because of exactly that. Seemed really strange to have a presenter who was so disinterested. I assumed he was a performance car nut and not in landrovers, which would be fair enough, but I assume from the rest of the thread he's like that in other episodes? shame because a enthusiastic/interested presenter, even if they don't know much, is what makes programmes like that.I must admit, as much as I want to watch the next programmes, I don't want to end up throwing something at the TV, so will probably give the rest of them a miss now.
He really was an irritating last night.

Is that chassis damage usual? What would cause it (to break both sides seems excessive, unless someone loaded something optimistically massive onto one end)?
It's common, but not that usual. It generally happens if you let the truck bang down a big drop. Mine has snapped both sides a couple of times. Bit of a pisser, but easily sorted.Spanglepants said:
...One thing that was said in the show was that the MK1 started the boy racer craze...
Hardly. When I were a lad it was all Minis with MG1100 engines and 1600 crossflow 105E Anglias with glassfibre Escort bubble arches, and the occasional Mk1 Cortina. Nobody could afford something as new as an Escort. Edited by gareth_r on Monday 28th April 23:44

The preview feature on the series in Radio Times said something to the effect that they found the LR chassis had been repaired using a fence-post. I took this to mean that they discovered a length of 4x4 timber stuffed inside the chassis member.aeropilot said:
I don't think Glenister is even much of a car enthusiat, quite why the production team thought he would be good for the programme is beyond my understanding.

I imagine it was the Life on Mars / Life on Cars thing? Any attempt to try and cash in. Certainly don't recall him being a 'car fanatic' when he was on Top Gear either? Personally, I preferred the series Mark Evans did (Wreck Rescue) but, as has been said, I suppose this is aimed at everyone as harmless Sunday evening entertainment. Glenister just grates though.I must admit, as much as I want to watch the next programmes, I don't want to end up throwing something at the TV, so will probably give the rest of them a miss now.

Chris Barrie would have made a more enthusiastic presenter.
I reckon Kevin McCloud from Grand Designs would have been ideal, definate petrolhead, especially with regard to what is restoration projects and a good presenter.....and well known. Not cool enough I suppose......

He didn't even bother with fake enthusiasm, just unengaged. I was particularly annoyed during the fire engine section when he showed no interest whatsoever. You don't need to be a car geek to be interested in what goes into turning a Landrover into a fire engine, and surely some burning pallets awakes the inner pyromaniac in us all.
Given that he's an actor, you'd have thought he could have acted enthused. Therefore I can only assume that his disdain and sarcasm were deliberate. I can't imagine why the Director / Producer allowed that as it did nothing for the show.

perhaps Knobbies enthusiasm will change when he gets to a car he likes. . . I hope so, because although the content of the show is too watered down when it comes to the restoration for my liking, its Sunday night, and its still better than Classic Car Rescue. . .mind you so is a Party Political Broadcast come to think of it

Well given the other dross on Sunday nights, I have quite enjoyed the programs, Ant seems genuinely interested in restoring the cars as best as they can be.
It's a shame they have to nail a seleb onto things like this to rake in the viewers as I would happily watch it without Glenister thinking he has to put on this spoilt hard man persona throughout. Dakkon said:

The trouble is that the actual restoration appears to be tacked on almost as an after-thought. I'm not sure whether the programme wants to be a car restoration programme or a "history of..." programme. Gassing Station | TV, Film, Video Streaming & Radio | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
