The level of humour in this movie was predicted pretty accurately on page 5 of this thread - a full year before the movie came out.

It was always going to be full of shouty/loud slapstick, gross out humour, forced 'awkward' moments and taking the piss out stupid men or assaulting/humiliating weak ones.

It's pretty standard fare for a Feig/Wigg/McCarthy movie......probably more predictable that the plot of a Tom Cruise movie.

I went to see this yesterday with my young son as he wanted to see it having loved the old ones. There were two other people in the IMAX 3D cinema, so I am not sure Odeon are going to cover their costs on this one.

The film has its good bits, but wait for it to come out on SKY/Netflix/Amazon/site of your choice.

Its a daft 12A film about ghosts, you review it like you were expecting high art.

I thought they mostly did a pretty good job.

But people are comparing it to the original, whose humour was smart and dry

What like the original that was nominated for two Oscars. The highest grossing comedy of the 80s. Ten weeks at the top of the box office. If adjusted for inflation in the top 40 best selling films. In everyone's top comedy lists. Not one bad review on it.

Yeah. It's just a daft movie isn't it. Most people think of their childhood and think star wars. They demand high calibre follow ups. Mines was ghostbusters. Sp naturally I'm fked off when a lame reboot is flung out that can't even beat a mundane pixar film at the box office.

I remember queuing round the block to watch the original I have watched it numerous times and love it dearly but this doesnt affect that one iota for me, I am not sure what they could do to make it acceptable for the fanboys, I would have like to have seen the original cast handing over to some new blood but it wasnt going to happen, Feig had a tough job, he obviously was at pains to pay his respects to the original but at the end of the day he had to produce something that appeals to old fans, new fans, kids, families, casual movie goes and people who have never seen the original.

It could have been better but it had some pretty good moments, I doubt anyone could capture the feel and vibe the original had, even if Ramis hadnt died and Murray hadnt been so reluctant I am not sure they would have captured the magic.

Films are not made to pander to grown ups who get all in a tizz when their favorite kids film from 30 years ago gets re-booted ..... it's made to make money, and this will. If seeing your heros lower themselves to cameoing in this nonsense is going to send you to thearpy, dont watch it!

My kids laughed - I laughed.....job done!

Yeah like the new star wars film wasn't made to pander to fanboys, recapturing the magic and isn't the biggest selling film at cinema of all time.

I watched it. I reviewed it. I didn't like it. That's the whole point of threads like these on ph. But others seem to think they should belittle others input.

I think the Men In Black approach to sequels has been the way to do it, the continuity has been there as has the quality, sounds like a fourth one may be in the offing as well.

I think Evolution was pretty much almost a Ghostbusters reboot, but with aliens, it is the exact same plot pretty much.

It was ok. Had to risk going to see it because Spy was brilliantly funny.

Nothing will probably even approach nearing the original, but then, most sequels are cash ins, especially all the reboots and remakes these days. It's rarer for a sequel to be as good as the original.

Has there been any remake in the past 20 years that even comes close to the original?

No - But that's a tall order...they only remake the good stuff so it's an uphill battle to be better....they can be good, but not better than a classic.

Now, if they went and reboot On Deadly Ground or something, you might expect an upgrade.

ANd man, that is crying for an upgrade.

In fact, so is all of Seagal's back catalogue.

Well I went to see it with my daughter and wife... We all had a really good evening out at the movies, we all laughed throughout and jumped in the jumpy bits, wife and I had fun spotting the cameos too.

It's a different sort of film to GB 1, closer to GB 2, but the different cast were, well, different. I feel like they were almost giving a salute to the old GB crew, hence all the superb cameos, before going off in a different direction for the inevitable sequel. Loved the after the credits scene...

I thought the female cast worked pretty well together for a first outing and whilst I didn't react to it like seeing the first movie (but I am 30 years older now) I did honestly have a good time watching. Wife and daughter said they would watch it again right away which is not usual for them. I think it's such a positive thing to have have strong female characters in lead roles of a big movie like this, and it was great to hear my daughter say she wanted to build her own proton pack - just like I probably said all those years ago.

I reckon if you go without comparing it to the originals and take it for what it is, you will probably have fun watching it. A couple of hours escaping the real world isn't such a bad thing at all at the moment.

Watched it Friday. Solid 6/10 I guess. Brain off typical sfx junk.

Overall pacing and script were ok but yeah the jokes felt shoehorned in, only one that felt natural was the response to the rental price of the old firestation.

Not as bad as I expected, not as good as it could have been, without the sfx it would be a made for tv special.

They should remake bad films, rather than good ones. Films that had some promise but fell flat somewhere along the way.
