I still have my Humax box under the SKY box - ready to be resurrected after retirement 2yrs ago and take over and kill the £400 a year SKY sub. Other than the clash records SKY sometimes permits (and the WORSE latest software to manage clashes) it just works so well - plus the box sets and huge catch up services. And...GoT... GoT gets us, so we have to have SKY Atlantic.

Trouble is we only really watch the free terrestrials plus a bit of Atlantic, so am effectively paying mostly for hardware not software. Have a 17Mbps downpipe and need the 10Mbps up-pipe (so that kills Virgin) - any other solutions? Fire Stick is fun but only watch Vikings!

Looks like Sky are going to have hardcore F1 fans over a barrel.

From 2019, ALL F1 races, except the British GP will only be available on Sky.

I wonder how much Sky will be then, compared to now!

The answer to your GoT question is...

Now TV

6.99 pm gets you pretty much all Sky channels like living and Atlantic, plus access to the box sets of everything that's been on those channels.

Don't tell them, but I think it's wierd that Sky offer such a cut price deal to get the same stuff it would cost over £20 pm over a dish.

Excellent - can run that with HDMI off the laptop. Will the SKY box need a dish coax connected or/and any sub to watch the long recorded stuff (800Mb+ - so many shows so little time)!

If you do not have a paid for subscription then the entitlement to the sky+ recordings is removed. They remain on the box but you cant view them.

Got my standard package (Unlimited broadband, Phone, Original TV) down from £46.40 to £30.40 plus a £20 account credit.
I feel I could have done a bit better but was happy enough with that.
Hope this helps anyone else looking to negotiate.

I received a standard letter yesterday from Sky saying that there would shortly be a price increase of over £5 per month! yikes

My TV expires tomorrow and no better offer than 50% off TV(which is still showing on my App) was forthcoming, so I phoned the number provided to take the deal to be told the 50% deal has expired, only 35% off is now available. banghead

So I guess I will be proceeding with the cancel and taking advantage of the C4 coverage for the F1 this weekend!

Does anybody know what happens to all the content I have sky+'ed? I guess I lose access to it but will I get it back if/when I subscribe again?

I thought it was a 30-day notice, so if you cancel today, the service actually stops in 30 days time?

Access to the recordings are removed but they remain on the box. When you subscribe again (or pay for sky+ on its own) then the access is returned.

Thanks.

Yes, I gave my notice a month ago so my TV service ceases from tomorrow. Poor timing on my part with the GP this weekend but I was hoping I wouldn't actually have to go through with it, and at least the F1 is on Ch4.

Tell them that there won't, because you don't accept it.

They need you more than you need them.

Why virgin upload is 20Mbps?

Not when I asked...

Seems a bit quicker now too but still not 20Mbps up-load? More like 12?

Old package ...with speed boost Old upload speed New upload speed
50Mb Broadband Up to 70Mb Broadband 3Mb 5Mb
100Mb Broadband Up to 150Mb 6Mb 10Mb
152Mb Broadband Up to 200Mb 12Mb 12Mb

Sorry that doesnt format, TRY: http://www.choose.net/media/guide/features/virgin-...

I also had a big typo - have 70Mpbs down and 17Mbps up currently.

Indeed. I can confirm our recordings (even stuff we deleted) was still on our box when we rejoined 6 months later, the box had been in the attic during that time!

Just received a call from a Derby, I guess retentions, who were able to offer 50% off and the £50 credit which I took. He also said I was not contracted by taking this deal so could serve notice at any time, if better deals pop up that could be interesting. Anyway, happy with that as means I don't have to be home for FP1/2 and I prefer Crofty/Brundle.

I'm sure I had a letter from them saying the 200Mb package was going up to 20Mb upload.
Seems not at the minute.

Hi All

Inspired by this thread I did try and cancel my subscription today but to no avail following a web-chat and follow up phone call. I have the sports pack which comes up for renewal on 25 May. With the loss of sports rights by Sky generally I tend to watch BT Sport more often and can't really justify the additional Sky cost of £37.50 per month. I view BT sports via my Sky platform. What I and allegedly Sky are unclear about is whether I will still be able to receive and view BT sports as existing if I cancel my subscription-will I still be able to receive BT sport via my existing Sky card or will I need to source an alternative platform to receive BT Sport? There seems to be conflicting views on this and would appreciate a definitive view on this before I cancel the Sky. Sky used to do some form of freesat card but don't know if they still do-if so I may need one of these? I also have an old Humax box and this might be an option too?

All advice appreciated here.

Thanks in advance.

Regards
G

BT Sport will still be available but you will lose all recording functions.
