Ok, I'll let input into a secret...after recently visiting the Wheeler Dealer garage in Bracknell to test drive one of this seasons cars and talking to the guys I can give you a bit of inside info. Most of the work is done by two or three guys in a garage on an industrial estate in Bracknell. These guys are headed up by Paul ( the guy that is sometimes seen on screen when Ed needs a helping hand) there is also another younger guy who helps out in the garage with day to day stuff. Ed's garage isn't actually a garage at all, it's a studio made to look like a garage with tool boxes and lift etc, Ed doesn't do much at all although he does know his stuff, he's a presenter, not a mechanic as far as Wheeler Dealers is concerned.
Is the fake studio garage next to the Grease Junkies workshop?

I've just finished writing up an article on the history of Wheeler Dealers.

Apologies for the self promotion. Thought it would be a relevant and interesting read smile
Enjoyed that a lot, ta. Very sad reading though...

Me too!

I think it goes to show that, if you buy a rusty car to start with, unless you do what Mark Evans' does and do a complete renovation, the rust will always come back and the car scrapped soon afterwards. frown

The WD logo is etched onto the top mounts.

I'll be looking for a 993 targa as soon as I sell my QP. I would seriously consider this one as I - naively perhaps - think China and his men know what they're doing.

The moral is....BUY MY QUATTROPORTE NOW !!!!!!!

More illusions destroyed. Here's Paul's eBay history. I quite liked reminising about the shows the stuff was used in, but I'm sure they weren't found on the bay in the program...

Really? That's a pity. The glitter of showbiz.

No rust on my QP, BTW. smile

I agree, Car SOS on the same night is of a similiar genre too and now in its second series and makes an enjoyable watch .
I enjoy car SOS too. It's much more slick than WD and there's nothing to doubt in terms of the format. Not as ambitious as WD I admit, but I'll watch every episode of SOS where as WD I've got a few in the TiVo I'll probably delete to free up some room. Enjoyed the XR2 one, but the Mazda was an opportunity missed. The TVR ones have been pretty good though, and I'm looking forward to the 2CV!

I love the Wheeler Dealers days on Shed or Discovery - I have it on all day in the background, even though I have all the box sets! hehe

Are we getting confused with the 911 they did on Classic Car Rescue, that horrible, horrible rip-off of WD with Bernie Fineman?

They painted it orange, left a horrible aftermarket front bumper on it and their own personal 'expert car valuation agent' claimed it was worth £25000 (or £100k in £1.50 a text competition entries to buy the turd).

It's former owner popped up on a forum (not PH) saying he sold it for spares as the inner wings were completely gone and it was a death trap.

I've just watched the RX7 show.
The only greater mystery over why they ruined the car is why the owner ever wanted it back - unless they did it to satisfy an appearance he requested to begin with.
It looked truly gash. How the Mazda owners kept a straight face, I'll never know.

This from an interview with a South African magazine.

One of the cars that is coming up in this series of Wheeler Dealers, in fact programme 2, it’s the Porsche 911, or the 993. It’s an iconic car. It’s one of the best point-to-point cars ever produced in the world. It’s the last of the air-cooled 993 Targas. It’s an amazing Porsche. And yet the guy who owned the car previously completely and utterly abused it. He had no respect for it whatsoever. It was as likely to park the car in the sea and just let the sea wash over the car. It was in a disgusting, terrible state. And it took Edd whole heaps of work and a lot of time to rescue that car and to pull it back. And that makes me upset when cars get into that state.
Make of that as you will.
