Well, the fact that this has reached 17 pages in the first two episodes means the format is working just fine.

It must be like Top Gear - people just love to hate/ridicule it, yet they still watch. There are some odd people about after all.

Me personally - I like Glenister, and have really enjoyed the first two programs. It's a fantastic format. One car, one restoration, some background knowledge, bit of beardage, and some funny bits from Glenister. Excellent!

Is there room for discussion and debate in your black & white world? Or must one either be in the "hate/ridicule" camp or the "gushing praise" camp with nothing in between?

Er, look at http://www.evanta.co.uk/ to see what Ant gets up to in his spare time.

He partially restored a car I owned. He does get his hands dirty.

I like glenister but his sarcasm in the landie episode was all a bit faux lovvie ballacks. Drop it, it adds nothing to the programme.

There are plenty of car loving celebs that would have been able to bring something to the table. Rowan Atkinson, Chris Evans, Chris Barrie etc....and still be funny

I am pretty sure the budget wouldn't have stretched to Rowan or Chris? As for Chris Barrie, very enthusiastic but whenever I watch his technical stuff he seems to get so caught up in the details he fails to tell the story very well. There has to be a 'straight' guy who basically just narrates things and a technical guy who magically makes everything work...with an army of others who are never discussed biggrin

I think this is where some of these production companies are missing a trick - why not put a load of lightly edited technical stuff on U-Tube or their own web channel so anoraks enthusiasts can get their fill?

Not really, I was channel hopping the other night and having noticed (not read) the thread on here, learned to drive in a 110, and enjoyed Glennister's character in Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes, thought I'd watch it. Lasted about 10 minutes before I turned over and won't be bothering again.

Edd China is probably the best all round mechanic in the UK

Surely the answer must be Bernie or Leepu?

Nowhere near. He's good at bodging, and presenting in a way that laymen can understand though.

I watched both episodes last night and found them to be enjoyable, the escort one more so than the Land Rover.

Like others I can't understand why you would want someone who is either acting or genuinely has little interest in cars and appeared to be taking the mick out of the chap with the LR collection presenting the show.

It was also a bit odd how the producers appeared to mock the mechanic chap by fading out is explanation of the head building process.

On the whole it's a extra car program on mainstream TV that isn't obsessed with MPG or doing group tests on diesel people carriers so it gets the thumbs up from me!!!!!

Filling over rust (he did this a lot in the old days). Folding replacement metal body parts with no seam sealer in the fold. Seam welding, again with no seam sealer. Cutting looms and then soldering two pre tinned wires together (i.e not looping them together and then soldering making a better join). Using a soldering iron to shrink heatshrink tubing...

The are just doing exactly what Top Gear does to James May. Anyone with any interest in engineering is as boring as a train spotter.

Did I mis-hear, or did "Ant" describe the Rover engine as "exhaust over inlet"?
