Clearly a few people here not familiar with the shocking rust and poor build quality issues of late 90's early 00's Mercs!
Good episode tonight though - really enjoyed that.
Is that level of underside rust common then? I have always had a soft spot for the mk1 SLK, and when this came on, I thought, this might be a good lesson in how to pick up a cheap one and tart it up a bit. The I saw the rust on the underside...Good episode tonight though - really enjoyed that.
My wife had a Y plate S2000, which whilst not pristine underneath, was night and day compared to that!
And I thought S2000's rust protection was poor...

There's not that amount on the underside on my wife's 1999 SLK which has now ticked over 125,000 miles, that said it's in the bodyshop tomorrow for correction on the rust that is just starting to appear in the wheel arches. It does have a couple of the problems that the WD car had, the condensation in the headlamp for one, but at least the roof works!

Started watching, but after the Mustang, Bubble Car and TR6 I was slightly underwhelmed by a ten year old tarts runabout and went to bed.
Seems I missed out, I'll pick it up tonight.
Last in the series?
Don't think it was the last, at least they did not say so.Seems I missed out, I'll pick it up tonight.

I thought it was a really good episode back to basics wheeler dealers and mostly jobs you could do in your garage as a DIY job without needing too many specialist tools

I was surprised at the state of the calipers & spotted a couple of perished brake hoses in amongst the close shots, but as Rusty Tractor pointed out, I would not be surprised if a fair bit of work you don't see hoes on.
I would imagine Discovery channel would be itchy about selling cars effectively with their name on that had potentially dangerous faults in the mechanickery department.
