The papers seems to have on a number of occasions said various people were going to present and most of them Evans has said on his radio show that it's a load of bks so I wouldn't get to excited or depressed about newspaper reports!
Whether or not you like him, he seems to have been pretty open and straight about the situation (apart from when he denied he was interested, but even then his explanation of why he said that was very reasonable)

It's going to be to much like Fifth Gear, which to most of the general public is too factual/serious,and doesn't have the light entertainment factor of Clarkson etc.I predict initial high viewing figures and then a big tailing off because this will be a bloke programme and not family entertainment.
I would be ok with that... in fact i'd welcome it.

Chris was only on fifth gear as a guest, not a full time presenter. Where's the idiot that started this rumour

Sounds like a better show than the 'Last of the summer wine on wheels' the old show became!

A satrical article in The Guardian 24th March 2015 said:
Schmitz knows a lot about cars, and possibly even rivals The Stig in terms of ability. She has appeared from time to time on Top Gear in the past, and shown herself to possess exactly the right mix of knowledge and boisterousness for the job every time. Plus, she is both German and a woman, a combination of traits so alien to the majority of Top Gear viewers that the whole show would probably self-destruct within an hour of her taking the job. And surely, at this point, that would, as they say, be the best outcome for everyone involved.
It could well be the new show will be a total failure given both the Executive Producer Lisa Clark and Script Writer Tom Ford have indicated they won't be part of it.

Interesting to see if the Guardian's prediction will come to pass....

Great, I like Harris.

Although with that new line up it may stray from the old format and have proper car reviews.

Joe public may not like that.

If Harris is presenting, I'm not watching it.
Agree with this.
Yes you will.

And when you've finished watching it, you'll post on here about how much you hate it.

Personally, I've no idea what it will be like - much like everyone else. I'm going to do a controversial thing and watch the first one before deciding if I don't like it or not....

If it wasn't replacing the three stooges and their slapstick circus and was instead seen as an entirely new show, then the lineup of a hugely successful "zoo" TV and radio host and car nut, a world famous former Formula 1 driver, a telegenic racer/instructor and a successful new-age media journalist with a considerable following ... that'd be pretty farking strong. If there's a bit of chemistry between them, it could be a huge success.

As with any new venture, good luck to them.

Some of the posts here amaze me. Whether or not you like his style, he shares a passion for cars which all PHers can relate to, surely?

I think it's great news, if true.

I have mixed feelings about this. If it means Chris won't be making his epic youtube videos, then that's bad. How will they utilise him on TopGear though?

That could be either great news (if they salvage the Top Gear brand with a completely new concept and more focus on cars) or a spectacular failure (if they make a 1:1 copy of the Top Gear family entertainment show with new hosts and a completey new crew).
We will find out in a few months!

Looking forward to seeing Monkey presenting TG, it's a great choice and I'm happy for him.
As a European, I had to chuckle at that Sun article. "unknown presenters"? I have absolutely no idea who "stars such as Zoe Ball, Suzi Perry and Jodie Kidd" are supposed to be.

So they've gone from 3 ordinary car enthusiasts + 1 non-speaking racing driver to 1 ordinary car enthusiast + 3 egotistical racing drivers. Expect a lot (too much?) of showing off
Great idea for a car show though. Wonder if they will rename it. But to what……hmmmm….how about counting how many gears the average car has (or, used to have) and naming it after the highest gear available. A bit like Top Gear, but then it would be, let me think, Fifth Gear?

Must admit, when I saw the thread title I was expecting the contents to be a complete CH fapfest.

Well done monkey!!!!

You're just jealous! You want to be him and your wife/girlfriend wants to be with him! I'm so excited thinking about his engaging personality exploding from my TV screen, and then we can all post about 'our monkey' on the telly. Perhaps we'll get to go to a warehouse and stand behind him or even touch him. Touching the monkey, imagine that.
