Speed with Guy Martin - new series
Discussion
I'm not for one moment suggesting that they would deliberately cause a crash but that was all so very telegraphed. Right from the "sense of trepidation" that people had just before the run. Just felt so fake. It would have been better had they just shown it as happening rather than injecting build-up 'drama' into it. If that makes any sense.
Interesting program, brought back a lot of memories of when three of us built the RS/02 (shown briefly at the start) for Goodwood.
The final crash was very similar to what happened to the RS/01 the previous year, which had a very similar design. The weight was too far back and therefore created a pendulum which causes the tyres to lose grip under lateral movement. Those tyres are only meant to go one way, so as soon as lateral load is applied beyond the level of grip, you are lost.
This was cured by moving the driver forward to the centre of the soapbox, then evening the weight out between front and back.
The use of water was easy, but I am surprised anybody thought it was a good idea to have a load of bottles rattling about. We had sheets of lead with the weight written on them that could be moved about to get the right balance. (Didn't go to the Lotus extreme of tungsten blocks as they were rather too expensive!!).
77Psi was low in comparison to Goodwood. We had about 110Psi, but had to keep the tyres covered or they popped in the sunlight. There probably isn't a great deal of benefit from going massively high compared to the risks.

Here we go again. Moan, moan, moan.
The best thing to have been on TV in ages and its being picked to pieces.
So, wait... having intelligent discussion on a discussion forum is moaning is it? The best thing to have been on TV in ages and its being picked to pieces.
Oh, I'm sorry. Let's just close the whole fking forum down. No discussion allowed whatsoever.

Now, if any of you who have watched this series and enjoyed it, and guy, have never been to a road race.
Do so.
Nothing beats watching those boys on track. Nothing.
I'm a short circuit scratcher but the roads are nuts, a breed apart!
I keep meaning to get to one what site is best for a calender of races?Do so.

This programme isn't aimed exclusively at the male population of PH you know.
So, I have a better idea. Let's convince Channel 4 not to make another series as it's obviously ste TV.
Incidentally, my post wasn't aimed at you so .
ETA
Play nicely now.
