Wartched this the other night. I thought it was unusual, moving , funny and very touching.
Michael Fassbender was brilliant and somehow made the paper mache head very expressive.
The end scene made my eyes moist and I can't get the song out of my head.

Watched Leon for the first time in years and it didn't let me down. Gary Oldman is superb and Natalie Portman gives her best ever performance IMHO.

Would recommend digging this one out again for another watch!

Million Dollar Baby

Been meaning to see this for ages as I am a big Eastwood and Freeman fan but never got round to it.
Really enjoyed it, cried like a little girl tho!

8/10
Need to watch something a bit light hearted now after that, 'Schindlers List' perhaps.

yes
Loved the film, it was a deserved winner....but I don't feel the need to rewatch it...
Indeed. Enjoyed it up until 'that' moment, and then it sucked the life out of me. Made Mystic River seem like a light hearted comedy in comparison.

Brilliant film. I'll bet you can't stop 'I love you all' going around in your head for days. smile

Well worth finding the Directors Cut. Makes an already fantastic film even better.

Hush - 8/10 Horror film, set in isolated cabin in the woods, obviously. But with a twist. The woman is deaf and a mute, leaving the killer to play on this.
I enjoyed it more than I thought, it was a bit cat and mouse but held my suspense without getting boring.

£6 on DVD or £7 BR from Amazon mate as I know you stand no chance of streaming it...;)

On the subject of directors cuts one of the best I've seen is Kingdom of Heaven. Turned an average film into a great one.

Interesting, I'll have to look out for that, my brother-in-law's hands made an appearance in that film, whenever there was a close up of shoving a sword into a forge or similar...
He was/is a metal worker out in Spain at the time of the shoot and was asked to join in, and travel to wherever they were filming... he was provided with food and lodging...he said it was one of the worst experiences, as he was away from his wife and kids and nearly everyone on set was banging each other or putting themselves about with the locals....despite mostly being in 'loving-committed' relationships...

Makes you wonder...

Makes me want to be in the film business hehe

It's a whopping 45 minutes longer than the theatrical version and as such ends up being a 3 hour+ historical epic. I was totally underwhelmed by it originally but the DC is one of my favourite movies.

snowden:

decent turn by the lead [he needs a snappier name that boy] and i enjoyed rhys ifans' impression of ed harris whilst wearing quentin crisp's clothes. fat nic cage playing nic cage was also a neat cameo.

everything else was pretty average and its hard to see where $40m has gone. most characters are stereotypes and snowden's purported anguish drawn out over several years was not really seen. little tension and a waste of decent source material.

i expected better from stone. not for it to be a mega film as his best years are far behind him, but for the politics of the story to be more vehement and cleverly done. what statements he made were unsubtle and rather obvious.

6/10

Kubo and the Two Strings. Child friendly adventure, a good story well told and beautifully animated. Well judged on tension, fear, and humour for both audiences. 9/10.

Watched Back To The Future ll and lll yesterday. I quite enjoyed them both but thought that BTTF ll was the better film but not as good as the original.

Last night I watched:

Hail, Caesar! - A Coen Brothers film about a studio fixer in the 1950's. My film watching buddies who came round didn't really get it, and were wondering what it was all about. I loved it, and now need new friends.

The Brothers Grimsby / Grimsby - Sacha Baron Cohen and a few others. I actually quite enjoyed it, despite it being very silly, and in places quite gross. Some of the action filming seemed quite impressive to me.

A pleasant way to spend the evening.

Why are things so heavy in the future? Is there a problem with the Earth's gravitational pull?

Without a doubt the DC of Kingdom of Heaven is a must see, I remember watching it with my 'rents, possibly over xmas one year and they were astounded they'd never heard of it as it was to them, one of those "must see" films like Saving Private Ryan or Schindler's List.

As a previous poster, I watched Westworld last night now Sky are showing it in prep for the new series. Forgot how much I adore that film smile

Thanks for all the 3D tips so far, they are starting arrive now from cheapo internet purchases so this weekend is looking like good one for viewing pleasure.
