I watched them on my HTC and to be fair the quality was surprisingly good. No worse than a movie on Netflix.

Well there are a lot of disparate stories to cover. The first ep covered a lot...but I think there were still three stories that they didn't show. I would expect them to pop up next ep.

The show was never a literal adaptation, and last year we saw some quite large changes, it'll be the same this year, some converging of plots to allow them to finish the show in time. George still has two books to write ffs!

Something I had forgotten from the second series. We saw a White Walker take a baby back then, and attempt a second go. Some people had theorised way back then that the Walkers were doing something to the babies.

Is it worth making sure everyone knows the rules regarding spoilers?

1. After showing on Sky Atlantic, in the UK, any discussion is fair game with or without spoiler tags - same as sports events, once it has been shown, its down to you not to click on the thread if you don't want spoilers.

2. Nothing from the leaked episodes is allowed until they have been shown on Sky Atlantic (see 1.)

3. Nothing from the books that will impact the TV storyline - this is the TV, Film & Radio forum - not the books forum. This includes smug "ooh, if you liked tonight's episode, just wait until next week's!"

We all know spoiler tags don't work on the mobile site well and often they don't load quick enough to avoid catching sight of something. I'm not trying to be the forum police or anything, but if there is a chance posting something will ruin it for others - DON'T POST IT! Common courtesy isn't hard.

As for ep.1 - felt pretty slow and a bit like a holding pattern just setting up the storylines for what's to come, Mance getting killed off was pretty much a given - quite liked him as a character, but it was never going to end any other way for him. I think if he had knelt, the big ginger looking viking or one of the other wildlings would have done Jon Snow's job for him.

There was a lot of faffing to come round to the idea that the dragons are even more unruly and pissed off at being chained up - didn't really move on much since they were first chained up last season - wait and see methinks. Hopefully dragon no.3 makes an appearance again after living the life of Riley eating peasants smile

Waiting for Ayra's storyline to pick back up and Tyrion and Varys go and say hello to Mrs.Dragon. Also, more White Walkers please.

All in all, not a strong first episode, but it has lined up niceley with the end of Fortitude, so I have at least 1 hour of good tv a week to keep up with smile

Not tried thronecast yet, but I quite like Sue Perkins and didn't really like the awkward guy they had last year, so will give it a chance.

Re spoilers, The TV series is only very very loosly following the books, their have been quite a few changes, some very major. So I wouldnt worry too much about the books spoiling anyhting.

I think that the rate that the show is going, and the money involved with HBO that the show will end up overtaking the books and the plot moving away from the books so far that they have less and less relevance.

I have a feeling that Martin will just be kept on board as exec. producer or similar to advise on the plot (if at all), then in his own sweet time he'll finish his books off with a 'directors cut' years later.

I got the feeling that Ginger Tormund would have wanted Mance to bend the knee. And looking at it from an in-universe perspective, it would have been a smarter to move to ensure his people have a better chance of making the bargain. But then Mance was old school. biggrin

It was nice to see the size of the dragons though, they are 2/3 times bigger than when she chained them. biggrin

Watched the "Premier" thing with Perkins and the episode last night, I was completely confused when my wife said "Varys looks weird with hair", I was 100% sure it was a slightly more portly Eamonn Holmes.

Decent catch up episode to remind us what's been happening and where everyone is at the moment, looking forward to seeing it move on and furiously resisting the 480p screener leaks.

Hello all!

Its been a while since I've been a part of this thread... I think I last posted a few days after the end of Season 4! smile

I'm back for the next 10 weeks though and have spent the last 2 weeks re-watching the first 4 seasons and have just finished last nights episode!

It was slow - but good nonetheless! I can't believe how much different the world is compared to Season 1 Episode 1 and how much the characters have grown.

I now need to resist downloaded the leaked episodes and stick to watching 1 per week like everyone else!

Sorry to sound like a dick, but I fking hate spoilers. I've seen all four episodes but my lips are totally sealed.
Sorry weeping

I still don't think its a spoiler for the show, it IS for the books but we knew that was going to be the case with this series.

Going to be simulcast at 2am from next week!

Are we allowed to discuss it then or keep till the 10pm deadline? Technically I think people say UK showing but I don't think many people will watch till the evening?

Really? fking A!
I wonder if there has been a thought change, or if they simply couldn't do it in time for the 1st?

The Unsullied - been thinking about this, if they are castrated at a young age, how do they develop a mature muscular male physique and why do they not have high pitched voices?
