Not a film but just binge watched Stranger Things on Solarmovie. X-files meets Goonies, set in 1980's with soundtrack to match. 9.5/10

Did a Ben Affleck marathon over the weekend, becoming a good actor when he's not being Batman

Live by Night - Cool gangster movie, prohibition stuff! 8/10

The Accountant - Another good one, Anna Kendrick cloud9 8/10

And non Ben Affleck related

Bleed for This - True story of boxer Vinnie Pazienza which takes you through all the emotions. One thing that I couldn't work out was When he is injured, he is in the hospital - the dr says that he may never walk again with the treatment he suggests, but then when VP opts for the Halo treatment he walks out of the hospital. Didn't get that and it bugged me throughout 7/10

Toy Story - 10/10

My 2 year old is insanely active and the longest he's ever sat down was when had to for an hour on a flight once (under duress!) We popped Toy Story on last week, 6 days later we've watched it somewhere in the region of 10 times. He'll be busy playing with Lego as well or something but will often just watch solidly for 20 minutes plus, which amazes us.

I've seen it before obviously. But even after a 7th viewing in 3 days it holds up so, so well.

A fair point. Why did it not strike me at the time that from the start he has had reasonable leg strength, core stability, and balance for walking but so weak in arms, shoulders, and chest. But I'd don't really understand the injury or halo.

Just back from our annual trip to Santa Barbara, so had a few hours on the plane to catch up on a few filums. Managed to get through:

The Magnificent Seven - probably my favourite film that I've seen in a while, very entertaining, Pratt and Washington were excellent, enjoyed Ethan Hawke's part too. A litte too PC at times (they were very careful to make sure none of the bad guys were Mexicans and all capitalists), but otherwise great. 9/10

Hell or High Water - quite a slow burner, great atmosphere though and a definite No Country for Old Men feel to it. Jeff Bridges was excellent as ever, and I loved the story. 8/10

The Accountant - had to finish this halfway through on the plane over, but put it on from the beginning on the return leg - wasn't expecting too much as I'm not Affleck's greatest fan, but an excellent film. Couple of great twists, great choreography 8/10

I.T Pierce Brosnan plays an Irish aviation mogul (wonder who that is based on) with a dodgy accent and even dodgier plot holes. Passed the time and gave an insight to why I'll probably pass on the whole connected home idea. Passed the time, no more than a 6/10

Keeping up with the Joneses - Whole Nine Yards meets Mr and Mrs Smith, funny in places, great cast (Isla Fisher - mmmm) , probably one to watch on a Sunday afternoon when there's nothing else on. 6/10 for coplete lack of originality.

Two Guns - Denzel Washington (always good) and Mark Wahlberg.

"Two hardened criminals get into trouble with the US border patrol after meeting with a Mexican drug lord, and then revelations start to unfold." - Needless to say, things aren't what they first appear...

A bit like "Once upon a time in Mexico" or something like that. IMDB calls it an 'action comedy', but it's not laugh a minute!

Watchable on Saturday night with nothing much else to do, but certainly not one of Denzel's (or Wahlberg's!) best films.

Someone's comment on IMDB is "Chemistry saves the day" and it does, just... Washington and Wahlberg work well together.

I wouldn't give it the 6.7/10 IMDB reviewers have.

We watched the new jack Reacher film last night. Not half as good as the first, quite a disappointment, very generic and forgettable.

Yep^. Terrible film. I'd already decided it was cack very early on, but when he comes out of the store stalking his daughter, the well-trained, super-covert military guy doesn't have a clue where she's disappeared to because he FAILS TO LOOK ROUND THE CORNER?!

Utter tosh.

Watched Extraction last night. Action movie, Bruce Willis, Gina Carano... what could possibly go wrong?

Well apparently it's possibly to make a movie when the writers have no understanding of the real world, the director jumps from one set piece to another without really bothering about the plot (though to be fair it was so predictable he didn't really need to explain the plot), and the fight choreographer likes to have a group of baddies queuing up to fight the hero one at a time rather than all just jumping him together.

When I did the Warner Bros tour that's what the guide called the creation of the bodycount part of the movie - thought I was using the lingo smile

I did actually quite enjoy 2 Guns, not Oscar winning material but fairly entertaining. Good choreography too wink

Two films both very very good and very different.
First one was Hacksaw Ridge. Remarkable true story about a young lad who went to war (WW2) and didn't shoot a single bullet but saved the lives of many of his comrades.
Second film was Silence. Quite a slow film about trying to convert the Japanese into Catholics when being a Christian was outlawed but the story telling and tension is brilliant. Very enjoyable if you are into story driven movies.
Both films include Andrew Garfield as the lead role and he's brilliant in them.
They're imo both a solid 9/10.

Edge of Seventeen - all about a 17 year old 'misfit' growing up, friends, boys... that sort of thing. Quite good worth a watch. 7/10

Manchester by the Sea - couldn't really get into it. Gave up after about 30 mins.

Arrival - a little disappointed with this tbh. I thought it started out great and had immense potential to be one of the alien greats but it just doesn't hit the mark for many, many reasons.

Rouge soldiers going completely unnoticed anyone?

6.5/10

Miles Ahead - brilliant, BRILLIANT performance from Don Cheadle. I really enjoyed the movie on the whole. Defo worth a watch.

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters

Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton kicking witches (including Famke Janssen) in the face. Top brain-out gory silliness for 90 minutes.

The founder, what a cracker, 8/10.

Michael Keaton plays the man who took Mc Donnalds and made it a world wide brand.

Love the trailer, Keaton is an underused gem in the US.

Elstree 1976

Charming little "talking heads" documentary featuring some of the non-character background extras who were in Star Wars. Some of them have moved on, some clearly haven´t! Plus it was nice to see David Prowse thriving at 78.

The Danish Girl

Someone bought my wife this for Christmas and I didn't really fancy it, but I enjoyed it much more than I expected to.

That said the true story is much sadder and grimmer than the film portrays.

On reflection the film is a little sugar coated and manipulative in the way it presents the story, but there are some good performances, notably Gerda and it's an interesting story.
