Just watched Battlebots that I recorded on Spike.

Good:
The violence, the arena and fire!

Bad:
I just hate generic American presenters, both male and female, they are all overly loud, annoying and fake. Was there 3 battles? In an hour? That's not enough so I won't be watching live so to speak, just watched the entire thing in about 5 minutes by skipping the rubbish.

Battlebots rocks !!

I know the two commentators are annoying, however with the power of the internet I've managed to watch the complete series .. and I like them ... I even like the 'its robot fight'n time' (Gulp) ! fella ....

The level of engineering is amazing - even in this thread there are the details on how the flippers gas are warmed - and the spinners, with the amount of kinetic energy - WOW !

I know who has won, but I'm watching the series again (This is a 2015 series - the 2016 has just finished) - Well done channel 5

Is it possible to stream Spike anyhow? Dont have an aerial/freeview.

I've seen a couple of the highlight matches on YouTube from BattleBots so i'm really glad i can now watch the full series in the UK on TV smile

Much much much much much better than RobotWars IMO. I don't even mind the presenters that much, even if they do get hyper-excited about everything and the theatrical nature surrounding the battles.

What's very interesting to compare is the matches, with BattleBots having no house robots or pit. Simply it forces the robots to have a proper match with the focus on winning via causing as much damage and destruction to the other bot as possible! This makes for much better viewing IMO smile

They do activate buzz saws that pop out of the floor after I think 1 min of battle. As well as the other things around the edge of the arena.

Going back to Robot Wars for a moment, I love how one of the teams had a FLIR camera so they could look for potential overheating issues on bearings, motors, and the like.

Surely I'm not the only person who looks at those two guys on Battlebots, and thinks about the commentators in Pitch Perfect?
They remind me of the SNL ESPN Classic guys:

They should add FPV to the robots.

Did this robot fight? I haven't seen it yet, but Jesus Christ it looks savage!

Excluded from season 2 because they thought it would break the arena.

Just wondering if we should get this thread renamed, or start a new thread for fighting robots in general to encompass Robot Wars, Battlebots, and similar?

HellaChopper looks bloody amazing! But I shudder to think how violently it would shoot sideways on contact with an opponent.

The interview I heard with Greg Munson suggested that the fact that HellaChopper caught fire every time they tested it had more to do with them not making the show than any safety concerns about the box.

Not a bad plan actually.

Just watched battlebots, I don't like the fact the picture quality looks almost fuzzy on my tele, the commentators are a bit annoying but other than that it was fantastic.

I hate the pit in the uk version, you always feel that st can sneak through, I don't mind the house robots but this seems the perfect setup. A bigger arena and just two robots battling it out. Some of the battles were pretty spectacular.

I enjoyed Battlebots, but it's as American as American can be. I'm sure if they watched Robot Wars they would think it's as British as British can be!
Certainly some spectacular machines on Battlebots, along with some spectacular white teeth!
