Good films I watched this weekend (Vol 2)
Discussion
Cloud Atlas.
unnecessarily complicated, with the time shifts and the repeated mantra of we are all connected blah blah blah. However well shot and good makeup, especially Hanks and Grant; took me a whole to realise it was them some of the time.
Let down by my first point and Halle Berry who's a bit of a one trick pony and mildly irritating. (I think my dislike for her comes from a cringey interview on The Chris Moyles Show where she pulled the race card ("Are we having a racist moment here") to a perfectly normal question by Moyles, whom I also dislike so not sticking for him in particular. He was livid afterwards and quite upset and flabbergasted to be honest.)

2/3rds of the way through Assault on Wall Street... an Uwe Boll film... now normally that should fill you with horror and give you a fair idea of what the film is like and yet... and yet... it's really good - it's a shock I know, but so far it's good
I don't know if you've seen Rampage but its the better version of this.TREMAiNE said:
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
Watched this again last night - I remember seeing it when I was a wee lad of 11 in the cinema, all these years on and it really is still a genuinely brilliant film. And plus, pirates are just f
king cool.
I know pretty much the worlds population have seen this by now but if you've not, give it a go. Probably one of my all time favourite summer blockbusters.

Love the Black Pearl, hate the sequels. They get worse and worse with every instalment.Tough this is still one of my favorite scenes:

Also, I find this scene surprisingly sexy (from 2 minutes in) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAE0RO7fyac
I saw Dead Man's Chest in the cinema when it came out and was crushingly disappointed and a year later queued for 2 hours with my mum to see At World's End and thought it was the best of the 3.
All these years on though and my opinions start to change - I think DMC is actually pretty good, the only thing that lets it down is its a bit sillier and more child-oriented than the first. My opinion on AWE has lowered though, the final battle is pretty epic and but the rest is too long and boring and I really didn't like the ending, the audience waits 3 movies for Will and Elizabeth to be together and then they can only see each other once every ten years!!!

The most recent one - On Stranger Tides was absolutely terrible and I hope they turn things around for the new one 'Dead Men Tell No Tales'.
Curse of the Black Pearl is definitely the best by a massive margin. It gets every aspect so right.
I think the jack sparrow scene is one of the best character introductions ever.
It sums up every aspect of the character in just 2 or 3 minutes of screen time without even saying a word.
I know lot of people don't like the pirates films, especially the fourth, but I love all of them - including dead mans chest (although I do fast forward through some bits). But what do I know, I really like the fourth Indiana jones movie too![hehe](/inc/images/hehe.gif)
My favourite scene - captain barbossa returns! My thoughts were "f
k yeah! Roll on the next one!"

Bridesmaids was surprisingly ok on Film 4 last night. Too much female chatter without anything happening, but Kristen Wiig's character was very likeable and her fat friend (Melissa McCarthy) made me laugh. A few cringe-worthy (in a good way) moments made me hide behind my hands, like watching The Office. Loved Wiig's drunk-driving test and her drive-bys.
She wrote it too.irocfan said:
Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome. From what I can gather it's a movie stitched together from several episodes, it's actually not too bad if you liked the re-booted series it's a pleasant enough way to spend some time seeing a 'young Adama' 55%
Yeah, worth watching from the back-story point of view, but if I remember correctly, the amount of lens-flare boiled my piss, and I thought it was hilarious how young-adama had a silky-smooth pretty-boy face, but they hastily made him get frostbite on his cheeks to explain old-Adama's pock-marked complexion. ![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)
Priest - action vampire western set in alternative universe. It was a very pleasant surprise for me - solid honest story, albeit without much of imagination. What's better - vampires don't kiss each other and humans, and they do not look pleasant either. Overall - sort of a B-movie, but very good at that. 6.5/10

Good fun and lots of amusing sci-fi references for the geeks amongst us. A little strained about 2/3rds through but overall very enjoyable. As good as Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead. For me as a sci-fi nerd, this is probably my pick of the Pegg/Frost films.

I know it's essentially a comedy but if I met a communicative and easy to get on with alien I'd be inclined to ask a few more questions about his home planet and the technology his species had developed i.e. I'd be a bit more curious than the two dumboesque main characters.
