I think all I can take from the trailer is that the vision of the "Dune World" seems to pretty much fit what is in my head. Mind you, it is a few years since I read Dune. I don't think I'll read it again before I see the film.

I don't see anything in the trailers that make me think it has things wrong and the draw of the original material should be enough to get me through the door of the Cinema. Job done I'd say.

It sounds interesting from the trailers and I'll give it a go when it comes out. I'm more interested in the the Foundation TV series though.

I tried reading the first Dune book when I was a kid, but couldn't get into it at all & gave up on it (not something I do very often). I thought Lynch's film was all right, despite his usual OTT, grotesque imagination. It's just the storyline that does nothing for me I guess.

Got to be a contender for most overhyped film of the year.

Which year? It was supposed to have been released last year!

Overhyped ? The only info I’ve seen on the film is on this thread !

I’m looking forward to it. I enjoyed the first film and I’ve read all the books must be 30 years ago though.

Just started the audio books.

Definitely one to see in iMax.

I read the book as a 12-year-old I think, and I found it hard going. The first film helped me make a bit of sense of it but it may warrant another read before i see this one.

It's very political, so I imagine that a twelve year old would have a tough time with it. I re-read it recently and it was very engaging.

I read a very positive review in the Guardian today. What surprised me is that it only covers half of the book. Will be bad if the second half doesn’t get made. Already been some time since the first owing to Covid delaying its release.

Yes, Den of Geek were very positive too.

I am so up for this. Dune is very much the LotR of Sci-Fi and if anyone can do justice to it, it is Denis Villeneuve.

I can't want to see it.

Yes, it is very much not a children's book.

I remember reading C.S. Lewis' "That Hideous Strength" as a child at school and struggling with it and asking a teacher, who referred me to another teacher who taught Theology, who said that it was a shame I was reading it at my age as it wasn't aimed at my age and that it was a shame as it meant I probably wouldn't revisit it (that sounds harsh. He actually said it in much kinder terms). But with hindsight he had a point. Mind you, I revisited it decades later and although I agree with him, I also saw it has religious bks too. But I digress.

This will drag me to the cinema.

Barking they didn't make it back to back though.

I was given it at age 11 and couldn't make head nor tail of it. Tried again in mid-teens and found it gripping and read the whole saga (which got more bizarre as time went on).

Just started re-reading it now in anticipation of the film.

My biggest concern with this is loving the first film and then part 2 doesn't get the green light. The movie industry is all over the place at the minute obviously and its a $200 million film so needs to return a lot more than that to be considered a success.

Also there's going to be a huge gap between the films even if it does go ahead, which movie companies also dislike as fear a loss of interest?

Saw this yesterday. Too long, too much whispered dialogue, they seemingly hadn't managed to invent a light bulb as all scenes were in semi darkness. What is the point of flying machines with dragonfly style flapping wings? A helicopter is much simpler and better, A thumbs down from me.

It’s a film about a galactic feudal society, mystic religion, serious eugenics and giant sandworms and your biggest technical concern was an ornithopter?
