Porsches design idea is the 911, and one size fits all whether its a 4x4 or a luxobarge. Hopefully the hybrid roadster concept's styling that doesn't look like a 911 will come through to their road cars at some point.

I liked the shot of RH pressing the AMG button taken through the sunroof, then drawing back as he canes it...
Yes, I noticed that. I liked that a lot.
So did I smile. Although I also noticed the car didn't have a sunroof in later shots wink.
I noticed the awesome shot, not the lack of sunroof though. Will have to have another look at that.
Here are two shots. From the first it looks like one of those full width glass sunroofs, which could explain why it's not very visible in the second pic.

yes black car, full-width sunroof = near-invisible sunroof.

Just saw a trail for tonights show. I swear I saw a woman with a pearl necklace in the back of a maserati.

There's a joke there right? They can't miss that can they?
Clarkson did say, when they were deciding which car to use for which task "I'll do the brides mother in the Porsche!" rofl

(She looked liked she might have been up for it as well)
They both seemed up for it, even got a kiss of the fit bridesmaid!

I thought the show was ok, but just that. Rupert Grint interview made me laugh though.

You cold say the same about the Rapide. It's an iteration on the DB7/DB9. but the DB9 is the most beautiful car on the planet and the 911 is a squashed beetle, so it's not about 'they take the family thing too far' it's about where you start from.

A bit of a 'meh' episode for me. Wedding bit pointless. I'm hoping for a return to the form that the first two of the series showed.

I quite enjoyed it but perhaps not as good as the previous ones

As I said earlier in the thread though in Clarksons column a few weeks ago he said

"Just finished filming and I had to admit to the producer that I thought it was simply awful. I was told not to worry as this episode would be going out on the night of the World Cup final"

This isn't an exact quote but that was the gist of it, I suspect this was the Wedding Car bit and they were well aware it would have lower figures

Hopefully this will signal a return to form next week smile

Wedding bit was crap and there's no way it was real. They only showed about 10 different people during the whole thing.

True about Aston, but at least they are all front engined, low, wide cars. The only basic difference between Vantage, DB9/DBS and Rapide is length and number of doors.

Porsche's base is the 911, a rear engined sportscar. From that they made the Boxster/Cayman, which I'll admit does kind of work, only because its a fairly similar format of a sportscar with the engine behind the seats. But they carry on with that design and try to make it fit a 4x4 and a 4 door super saloon. Completely different cars, that end up just looking wrong.

On the other hand, Porsche could have made the Panamera look a lot better and still look like a 911 though. The design I'm thinking of is about 20 years old now, and its called the 989.

Good episode. One, ok, two things that caught my eye was the blonde in the White shirt behind Rubens wink

Also laugh out loud at "I'll do the bride's mother in the Porsche" laugh

Loved the camera work for the E63 too.

Right up to the wedding part. I was thinking "at last TG is back doing what it should be"

I have no doubt that the couple in question DID get married on that day. But I'm also under no illusion that one or both of them are BBC employees and were in on the (crap) joke.

I'd have the Maserati beyond a shadow of a doubt.

The production team clearly got the idea for the Farnborough shoot from my Flickr stream ;-)

Judging by the bombshell they finished on, the worst is the best (i.e. the Maserati), the bit the missed off I bet was the best was the worst (the Panamera!) but Clarkson couldn't bring himself to say it. As much as they loathed it, I noticed May liked it, and it had the most "POWWEERR!!!" They picked the worst colour of course for it, Chav White. It is huge and ugly, I passed one recently horrid, but I bet it was the most competent to hoon across the continent, and had the most space. Thought the Masser fine, and the Aston well another pretty Aston, but did you see the Aston's "boot" area there appeared to be no boot as such, just a space, no parcel shelf? kinda weird.

Okay episode. Think I'd have the Camaro. The AMG was just another loud ugly Merc. The Camaro was a loud Yank. Fair enough..

Why does the numberplate of that Aston look so familiar. I am sure I have seen it before...scratchchin But where?

Astons own plate?

Decent enough episode, but some parts were a bit off.

Why compare an American muscle car with a Mercedes twice the price?, and the wedding bit felt very forced and stupid.

There used to be lots of PHers who went to the filming. Has Applause Store blocked people who post here?

I suspect those that wanted to go have gone. And having done it don't feel the need to do it again. And those that have not done it don't intend to for any number of reasons.

My own being I've been to the filming of shows before. Tedious is the word that springs to mind.

Mind you those shows were on S4C....

My daughter applied two years ago, not heard anything other than it might take about five years or something equally stupid.

Personally I'm not that interested in going frankly.

@ Anyone who HAS gone, what do you gain from the day? Serious question btw.

Please Note: I'm about as interested in meeting Clarkson/ Hammond/ A N Other Z lister/ appearing on the idiot box as I am in having my testicles removed with a rusty spoon.

Speaking of plates, I'm sure the 8 USA plate on the Camaro was on a Hummer that they tested a few years ago.

ETA: What a great memory I have...
