Good films I watched this weekend (Vol 2)
Discussion
I watched Inside Llewyn Davis - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2042568/?ref_=nm_flmg_...
It's a typically odd/curious Coen Brothers film, in that nothing really happens, it's just a glimpse into a bit of the world.
6.5/10

Watched Grand Budapest Hotel this weekend, I loved it. Typical quirky Anderson film.
Also watched 'I saw the Devil', brutal korean serial killer / revenge movie. The bad guy in this is great, the plot is a bit daft and the gore is relentless. Really enjoyed it. Just checked and it's got 7.8 on IMDB, can't say I disagree with that.

Whiplash Very good but for me it lost a bit of credibility when he got smashed into, walking away from a mangled wreck was a bit OTT, would have had the same effect if he'd been clipped/less mangled.
The premise didn't interest me but one of those films that's good enough it didn't matter 8/10
The Theory of Everything Good enough but overly long IMO Redmayne's face must have hurt. I think the leads were good but would have liked more science and more background on his achievements-you can't please everyone and guess to appeal to a wider audience they went the love story plus struggle route. Worth a watch with some good bits but bordering on over hyped IMHO. 6.5

Zulu, the 2013 one.
they made a new one?The GFC unfortunately drove studios to only put money behind known formulas.

Really enjoyed "I saw the devil" but I felt like I shouldn't, such was the relentlessness of the extreme violence. Some might describe it as pornographic/gratuitous but my favourite film genre is "revenge" and I love Korean films. Definitely not a film to watch with the wife! Also watched 'I saw the Devil', brutal korean serial killer / revenge movie. Taken 3 - 7/10 whilst not as good as the original it's much better than the second. Keeps you entertained throughout and would probably be a better watch at home and not in a packed cinema with people who seem not to be able to sit through a fking film without getting up for a piss, talking, looking at their phone or popping bubbles with chewing gum.
Watched tonight, wouldn't give it more than 5/10, though it slightly worse than 2. Neither contains the gritty realism and action of the first. 3 lacks any real tension and adds some really stupid unrealistic stunts. And some of the dialogue was awful.Wait till its out on sky/netflix/prime, and have a beer or 5 first
Sabotage - Not sure what to make of this one, I think it sneaks in here (just).
I think there is a good film trying to get out but it's been sabotaged by the lead being too old, all the other characters being essentially unlikeable (sorry, morally ambiguous) the violence/gore being ott and the plot not really making much sense. That said, something made me watch to the end and it did improve after the first 20 awful minutes. I'll avoid spoilers for what they are worth but I think think the main issue was they led the viewer too much, keeping information back and letting the pictures tell the story as the character learn would have been a better approach.

Hitman, forgot how enjoyable this film was, Timothy Elephant was perfectly cast, shame there wasn't a sequel
You're in luck:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hitman:_Agent_47
It's Quinn from Homeland playing the lead though.

Cor, what looks like a reasonable cast there with Quinto in on it too. Could be a good one that.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hitman:_Agent_47

Another vote for Grand Budapest Hotel here, beautifully put together.
Also rewatched Kick Ass, enjoyed it again.
Love, love, love Kick-Ass.Also rewatched Kick Ass, enjoyed it again.
Recent films for me:
The Imitation Game - Compelling drama about Alan Turing and the cracking of the German Enigma code. Great performances (even from Keira Knightley), but I think Benedict Cucumberpatch overplayed Turing's social awkwardness. Reading up on the story reveals that quite a lot was made-up for the film. 7/10
Marvellous - Finally caught up with this on iPlayer; catch it while you can. Wonderfully heart-warming true story of Stoke City and circus clown legend Neil "Nello" Baldwin. 9/10
