Didn't she think going on the Iraq war march was something to do with his job as well?

I came on this forum hoping somebody had posted something about this.

What a revelation. Are people's lives really that bad? Unbelievable scenes. Te 34k comment was amongst the highlight of stupidity of the program, matched with the jobseekers couple - "I want to earn some money so I can get away from her", married for 3 months.

I feel very satisfied with my lot after watching that.

Even the couple from Ghana were a bit bizarre. His need to frequently get himself into debt to lavish her with gifts and make her feel good. It just makes you wonder what she'll do if the gifts and money suddenly start drying up.

those horsey/doctor newlyweds must be the worlds most boring couple.

the fat woman with the scientist husband is unreal; "i want him to give up the career he loves to do something he would hate so that i can send my kids to a private school". You could see him thinking "hmmm i probably shouldn't go to her her solicitors for my divorce advice"

Spot on

Saddens me the amount of young kids swallowing the "you can't get anywhere without a degree" tosh

You only have to witness the amount of them now that seem to be saying "right, I've got my sociology degree, that'll be 28k PA please.........hello?.......hello?"

If I could go back to my 14/16/18 year old self with advice...........
I'm starting a new posting about something that happened.....you just reminded me..

FFS! It's not like he earning 5k as an artist! I'm sure research scientists have some sort of career progression from 35k.

Why doesn't she get off her fat ass and get PhD or become a lawyer.
There probably isn't much progression from 35k to be honest. Just like engineering, you have to move on to management... become the manager of the research dept, command research budgets and such like. If you could get up to Dean or Head of science/engineering then it pays pretty well. But then you aren't doing the job you love any more. Swings n roundabouts.

He could always sell out and go work for one of the pharmaceutical companies. But maybe he's got ethical reasons against it.

I've got a lot of respect for that Research scientist guy. He's no doubt just sticking with her for the good of the kids.

Felt bad for the Chesterfield couple too. People like that I feel have been let down more by the system than through a fault of their own (although there is some obviously).

Beautifully edited program though, switching from "We live on cheap meat and frozen veg" to "Our incomes only small now, about 100k+" a year.

So full of stereotypes...

two fatties, you wonder how they manage to copulate and he's bald with a beard

Professional gays....Gok Wan and Jason Bradbury

Black couple...with a black leather sofa and a black BMW...of course it had to be a BMW, as that stands for black man's wheels.

Mixed race couple....she's white and has all the money..he's black and has none. Definitely his meal-ticket.

Middle-class newlyweds aka the rugby/horsey set....he's called jonathan and she wears a stripey rugby shirt.

Do such people exist?

Why would they feature in a programme which is about how "normal" people are coping in the current climate?

In truth, all people have aspects of their lives that are "stereotypical" and aspects that are unique to them.

Not sure. I am sure there is a black man with a micra smile

Completely agree with the second part but you did ask what would not fit a stereotype...

And what would be the point of digging for people such as that on a programme like this?

In a way, I am tired of TV that searches out the strange, weird and unusual. It makes a change to see programmes that ask how "ordinary" people are coping. Even amongst the "ordinary" you will get the oddballs.

None

Completely agree with you.
