Why do people even worry about such stuff? It’s something entertaining to watch, I don’t remotely care about his finances!
Do people sit and watch East Enders or whatever and wonder if the actors can cover their bills?
must have boring lifes!!!Do people sit and watch East Enders or whatever and wonder if the actors can cover their bills?
With YouTube - it's enabled some, become almost household names using nothing but good luck and sheer talent whereas go back 30 years, those 2 qualities probably wouldn't have been enough and plenty lacking talent got to earn good money. I love seeing the established entertainment business turned upside down this way.
As for people's lives being boring - I hope I'd never be so judgemental of someone else to think that. Some people enjoy assembling Lego, growing bonsai or getting drunk. All stuff that I'd find boring but each to their own.
We all enjoy different stuff and nobody forces us to be interested in what someone else it.
As a grumpy and opinionated middle aged Petrolhead everything about Mat’s videos is in exactly the right sweet spot for me to be grumpy and opinionated about….
And yet, I find them really really enjoyable. I don’t really care for the cars he likes, or works on, but the way he demystifies a lot of the manufacturer and industry horsest is brilliant, and above all he’s just extremely watchable and personable.
Crashing an enormously powerful car on a public road is a dick move, but I was young(er) once and did stuff like that too
More power (as it were) to him and good to see such an alternative and interesting way to ‘make it’

As a 51 year old accountant, I doubt I'm his target audience, but I love his videos. And yet, I find them really really enjoyable. As for the crash, well we know he wasn't doing 30 (well, except maybe when he prodded the throttle ) but since I managed to shorten my Astra GTE by quite a bit many years ago less than two miles from where Mat had his accident, who am I to judge? For the record, it was a 30 limit and I was speeding.

He's very likeable and unlike a lot of people out there he's likeable by a huge range of different people so i wouldn't be surprised of top gear type roles in the future as well.
Good luck to him, worked very hard to get himself going and has done better already than most could dream of.
Not too sure why he’d want a “top gear” type role.Good luck to him, worked very hard to get himself going and has done better already than most could dream of.
He’s much better off riding the YouTube wave until the bubble bursts.
He seems switched on enough not to squander his profits, so even if it only lasts a few years he’ll be set for life. That said. His finances are his own business.
At least his not rinsing punters on Patreon.
Fair play to him. He’s living a lot of peoples dream.

Indeed. It's a powerful car, and he's a youngish lad. He owned the predicament, and his attitude no doubt appeased the Police. They would have realised that a wrecked Lambo is all the punishment he needs for being a tool behind the wheel.LeighW said:

Watching his C63 video - he's still driving like a dick though but he's getting away with it so good on him.
I'm just glad he doesn't drive past my house
Some great comments in the 2 posts I've quoted. Really good point over demystifying the horse st.

Full transparency, i'm 57 and I find Mat's stuff properly entertaining.
STG is the most irritating individual in the history of the entire universe, ever. If he does his 'bunny ears' thing with his paw one more time I'll write him a stiffly worded letter. JayEmm just makes me cringe, he talks as if every word has a full stop after it. Harry I like but he can be a bit, well, boring sometimes.
I think one of the likeable things about Mat is that it doesn't feel forced. No doubt he'll be a bit different off camera but you get the sense that it won't be by much.

I never fast-forward Mat's videos as they're always pretty entertaining and, crucially, never have dull moments where not much is happening.
It's like a YouTube version of Wheeler Dealers, without the irritating Mike Brewer bit.
JayEmm tries too hard to be like Clarkson.
Harry is a legend but a feature of his road test videos (and some of Jonny Smith's, for example) is that there is too much in-car talking to camera. Just watching a bloke driving a car isn't entertaining, no matter what he's saying about it.
