I watched the midnight showing of Star Wars the Force Awakens.

I will keep this short and sweet.

It was good, though not amazing but I guarantee over time it will get better and better, once it has its own nostalgia factor.

8/10

Yes, pretty much.
It was like a modern Star Wars (1977), it could have been improved a bit, but they need to move things on as well as pay dues to the past...it was a hard task and it was accomplished rather well.
I'm actually rather fond of it now, and yeah, I think it'll grow as the years go on....especially watched in junction with the three real SW films.

Someone bought me the box set a few years ago and I watched all six in story order (prequels first) and I honestly didn't see a big gap in quality between them.

The stand out moments for me were the climatic ending of The Empire Strikes Back and when Annikin turned into Darth Vader in Revenge of the Sith.
You mean the bit where he pulls himself free of the shackle and walks forward like frankenstiens monster saying "Noooooooo!"
While Milking the Giant Cow.

How to ruin what could have been a powerful and emotive scene.
Watched this last night, they should have left it at the point where you first hear him breath through the helmet.

I give Star Wars 7 at least twelve to twelvety potatoes on the potato-meter.

It's so great it might deserve a 5/7... hehe

A Walk in the Woods

Pleasant Charming but without any of the real personality of the book. some funny moments but not enough characterisations within the film to make you get into the proceedings properly...

A missed opportunity I think, not terrible but not as good as it should have been 6/10.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

Could have been called anything really - didn't seem to relate to the show at all other than the characters' names.

Was just an action movie set in the 60's and they couldn't even get that right (late model Trabi, Series 3 LR).

3/10.

yup - another thumbs up from here. Some great nods to the past and genuinely exciting in places. Really glad I went

Great film, don't go in expecting a shoot em up, its not.
Cheers for the heads up on this, it probably would have totally passed me by if it wasn't for remembering the name whilst flicking through Netflix last night.

Yep, great intense film.

lmao - I feel your pain. I watched this a few years ago and enjoyed it right up until the room got too dusty to see properly

A couple more from the depressing thread.

Nil by Mouth

Not so much a story more of a snapshot of a family and their friends dealing with social issues like domestic violence, drug addiction etc. I thought it was done very well and I agree with the poster who said it was Ray Winstone's best performance, he really did play being a horrible to perfection.

7/10

We Need To Talk About Kevin

Definitely deserving of a mention in that thread, bleak from start to finish not at all fast paced but the misery was relentless. Again I thought it was well done and I liked the general style of it even though it was grim viewing.

6.5/10

Also watched the Edge of Darkness TV series mentioned earlier, hadn't heard of it before, very enjoyable I was hooked from start to finish.

Watched Hit man Agent 47 last night.

I am not entirely sure what everyone beef with it is. It's along the lines of the 1st and a good enjoyable way to waste 90 minutes.

A solid 6/10 or if you preffer 4 carrots, 2 potatoes and a parsnip/Stew.

I watched Ex Machina the other night. Great film. Kind of reminded me of Under the Skin, in that it was a low budget sic-fi that relied on writing and atmosphere, but also go grim Im not sure I'm going to watch it again!

A solid 5/7.

really?

I almost got to the point of turning it off, really did not get on with it, far to predictable and wooden acting.
