Evening all

I've just been watching a children's film on Sky and (big wuss that I am) found one scene a little hard to watch. In the latest Narnia instalment, Prince Caspian, a bunch of the good guys (talking animals and mythical creatures mainly) are trapped in front on a closed gate and shot to death with crossbows. For a kid's film, I thought it was a pretty tough scene.

It reminded me of the other scenes that I still don't like to watch, including:

Saving Private Ryan - the Jewish soldier slowly getting knifed in the heart by a German soldier

Under Siege - a helicopter full of Navy SEALs gets blown out of the sky by terrorists

Die Hard - the immobilised police APC gets blown apart with wounded men inside

The Rock - the stand-off in the shower room (IIRC) when the SEALs are ambushed

Die Hard 2 - the British airliner being deliberately talked into crashing on the runway

So, am I a big girl's blouse or does anyone else find these hard to watch? I can bear blood and guts, no problem - hell, I thrive on that - but seem to have a problem with 'innocents' being killed.

Does anyone else have any similar scenes? And why?

Cheers

Ben (awaiting psychiatric help)

Nothing in any mainstream Hollywood film I have seen. Some lesser known foreign films are a different story, Martyrs for example is very difficult to watch (especially the second half).

  • That* scene in American History X.
Shame, as it's an awesome film and I wouldn't mind watching it again. If it weren't for that bit.

Con Air, when that criminal is with the little girl and they're singing. Quite eerie.

The one at the end of Requiem for a dream. Watched it with the missus and it was a bit weird.

Also remember watching the uncut ear cutting scene in Reservoir Dogs when I was far too young, that made me feel pretty uncomfortable.

I remember that scene in "gangster number one" were he beats and knifes the rival gangster to death was a bit nasty to watch, considering it was done in the first person.

Also in "city of god" were they shoot the little kid in the foot.

I'll agree with that. A little too realistic (and long) to be 'entertainment' in my book.
