I am going to ignore the Paul McGann version and film adaptations.

So who is/was the best Doctor?

This is NOT for discussion of the current series.
You want this thread for that!

I gave it multiple choice. Mainly because I cannot choose between Jon Pertwee or Tom Baker. (From my childhood).

Although I think Smith is the best of the new three, I voted Tom Baker over all.

Difficult choice for me as I remember Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker from my distance youth but for me Jon Pertwee just shades it.

Tricky one - Tenant brought it back to the main stream but Baker was/is the man smile

Did not see that.

Wonder if things will change not that Matt Smith has been the Doctor longer.

Both polls looking quite balanced though, maybe matt smith isn't as good.

Dear MS,

I am the only supporter of Pat Troughton although I have a soft spot for Tom Baker's Brian Blessed stylings. ISTM there is an overwhelming preference for the lighter portrayer, I much prefer the darker more irascible characterisation.

Of the modern era this is why I plump for Chris Ecclestone. I was very disappointed when he chose to move on after just the one series.

Rose Tyler: If you are an alien how come you sound like you're from the North?
The Doctor: Lots of planets have a North!

I've never been much of a Dr Whoie?

What are Dr Who fans called?

But I did enjoy Tennant. As for this new one.....

Only really watched it in recent years so Tenant and Smith are both my faves.

I thought it had been agreed that polls of this type only really tell you about the age of the participants ?

The older generally have more choice in who they choose. But You'd have to presume people can be objective rather than pick whoever was playing him when they were ten years old. (for me that was Pertwee but I rate Smith above him).

Tom Baker is Dr Who for me.

When I was about 10 I met him while they were filming 'The Seeds of Doom' he ended our conversation by saying how he had to go the the BBC canteen as "even Time Lords have to eat."

Legend.

Tom Baker.

I absolutely loved it when he was, temporarily, the voice of the BT text to voice service. I would send messages to the landlines of everyone I knew saying, "hello. I am the Doctor". It amused me, anyway.

Just to be stupid, I think it's a bit like who played the best James Bond

David Tennant is a Pierce Brosnan
Jon Pertwee is Roger Moore
Peter Davidson is a Daniel Graig
William Hartnell is a George Lazenby
Tom Baker is a Sean Connery
