American Rust S2 starring Jeff Daniels now available
Half way through series 1. It's a bit bleak.
I was going to give that a go, but I'd want to watch S1 first, but S1 is on NOW at a cost, whereas S2 is included in Prime irked
S1 is available on Sky Atlantic catch up

I don't have Sky. It seems I can watch Sky Atlantic catch up via the NOW app and subscription, but I don't subscribe to that either. But thanks for the suggestion.

Masters of the Universe

I put this on the Films I watched this week thread as well but worth adding here because it doesn't jump out on Prime. 1987s He-Man film starring Dolph Lundgren, Frank Langella as Skeletor and Meg Foster as Evil-Lyn. Proper 80's stuff, as a kid I had this recorded off the TV and I'm sure almost wore out the tape I loved it so much. Lundgren is perfect as He-Man however one of his earlier roles and his English wasn't great at this stage so his dialogue is on the short side.

A little dated in places now but the production design is excellent and Langella is probably giving one the most underrated performances as a villain in a film. He eats it up.

If you've never seen it and you're a fan of 80s stuff like The Highlander etc give it a go, if you watched it as a kid run and watch it again!

Rhys Darby: Big in Japan

Very similar to James May: Our Man in Japan (or possibly vice versa; I haven't checked) but with a Kiwi gentleman who apparently I should know of but don't.

So far (35 mins into the first 45 min episode) it seems good.

Outer Range series 2 is just as odd as series 1.

The overriding thing I'm having trouble with it is the characters' continuous secrecy - none of them talk to one another. They create drama just because of this - it's tedious really.

That said, this series has moved the story forwards a bit but it really could have been done in a single 90 minute film.

For those of you who haven't paid to get rid of the ads, how intrusive are they? Do they keep them to the start of the show or interspersed throughout?

Tbh, they've been a minor irritation to me. Tends to be one at the start then maybe a couple during the show of a couple of mins at most, usually much quicker. Used to watching tv channels with ads so haven't let it bother me too much.

On main Prime they are indeed a minor irritation. Don't come up often and don't last long.

However, Freevee is frequent and irritating

I'm in the US. On Prime it's just one ad at the start, on Britbox no ads, Freevee has always had ads.

I know.

My point was that regular "Prime with ads" has way way fewer ads than Freevee does, in case the OP wanted to know that by way of comparison.

I'm currently outside the UK, and Prime hasn't shown us a single ad for three-and-a-half weeks

It does amuse me that Amazon say "Upgrade to watch Prime movies and TV shows without ads for £2.99/month" when what they mean is "Go back to watching Prime movies and TV shows without ads, for an increase of £2.99/month"

But this is what they've done since they realised they couldn't do free delivery and a streaming service for £79 per year. That's gone up, most of the content requires an additional sub (or rent/buy) and then they introduced the ads thing.

I got Prime years ago because of the free delivery, and then Game of Thrones came on, but there's very little we want to watch. My sub is due in June and I'll be cancelling.

Their problem is that they don't produce their own content.

Was £49pa originally, when launched. Which was when I joined. Back then it was just the delivery though.

They do produce their own content, btw. The Expanse and Fallout are two that spring to mind.

They do, but they are increasingly buying content from elsewhere and charging extra to watch it.
